Yes, I remember reading that (awful, i might say) book by Karl Lagerfelds assistant which stated that H&M insisted on using Karls fabric mills. They probably did that with their other collabs as well.

One might add that H&M probably gets a massive discount because of how much they order.

People are bashing the materials because that's the foundation of good clothes. Literally. Although there has been pure materials used in the collaborations the quality is still questionable. Remember, not all silks, cotton, cashmere, etc. are made equal.

I think what street_a_licious meant was why are they bashing when the people designing, not h&m, get to pick what materials to use. I don't think h&m gets to say "you can use this silk for that dress, not the silk you want to" I know they don't always choose the best possible materials, but that's because it's a high street collaboration. I'm still looking forward to this, I feel like it's either gonna look really cool and give people a chance to try something new, or will look boring and watered down. Hopefully more pics will pop up soon I am beginning to lose my patience

of course the design houses have a say in the materials that are being used, but it's a high street collaboration and the prices have to be low. ergo i don't think they will be using top quality silk, cashmere, merino, etc. there can be wool or leather or whatever in the garment but it will be treated poorly - it has been in my experience at least.
anyway... we'll see how it turns out in 2 months. maybe the quality will be exceptional and i'll have to eat my own words. who knows.

On another note, I'm curious too how big the turnout will be. Fall collaborations have been recognizable brands and Margiela isn't. Even more, Margiela's aesthetic appeals to a small range of people.

This is H&M so we can throw 'niche' out of the equation. As for quality, I expect nothing more than all the previous collaborator.

Well Juicemajor, the dress we've seen so far is pretty niche. The shape is not exactly what I'd describe as 'universal.'

as for H&M 'quality' recently it's been reaching new low standards
their lines are really... unwearable

I agree and I stopped shopping there years ago because of this. They're the new Forever 21.

I think they only save the "quality" materials for the yearly collabos honestly and that's not saying much.

There's a preview of the menswear in the new issue of GQ and a bit of text explaining the collaboration and how most of the pieces are 're-editions' of mainline pieces from seasons before, such as the supporter's scarf from the spring/summer 2005 collection. I'll scan when I can.

The pieces are all re-worked from previous collections, such as the nude leotard from S/S 07', a wool pea coat from A/W 00', wedges from S/S 07', clutch from S/S 10', cotton mix sock sweater from A/W 91' and cotton jeans from A/W 00'.
