I feel as if Georgina Chapman always makes such breathtaking dresses - the technique is definitely there. I just think that there is something unoriginal about them, and I say this because each season they are easily compared to other designer's works. She seems to build on other's aesthetics... I, like mentioned before, see a lot of McQueen and Givenchy. I don't think Marchesa is anything revolutionary or radically inventive when it comes to design. Although they are undeniably beautiful, Chapman is more about execution/creation than concept.

I hate it. This is so ugly. Big Disappointment.

i feel like they should just go into the bridal business and stay there...
this collection (and their work in general) is not ugly, but it's definitely highly referential...
seeing their collection for the first time always induces a bit of deja vu, no? whether it's mcqueen, givenchy, comme des garcons, lanvin, dior... i can see notes of all of these in this collection

I think you answered it, really.

It's not unfair, season after season after season you see these ladies get inspired by other designers. and that's fine, it happens in the industry. but then they get shown at the Oscars because of their connection to Hollywood. You want to talk unfair?

Theme: table cloths and wrapping paper.

Nonetheless, I find the direction of this collection is an interesting one for Marchesa.

Squizree wins for funniest comments on this thread! Hahaha. And agree with Chrissy M's take, but this line is really not my cup of tea, though obviously it has carved out a niche for itself - largely red carpet?

I'm not liking the severity of some of the dresses. But I can't deny that some are gorgeous, like the chalcedony blue piece with the embellishment down the front.

It is a beautiful collection. I can't help myself seeing Givenchy & McQueen all over it...

As other people have said, I look at it and I see a LOT of Givenchy in there. And McQueen as well.
If I ignore that, however, some of it is quite beautiful.

So far I can see looks from Georges Chakra 2006-07, the puffy sleeves are Gaultier and much of the lace work is straight from Valentino, and of course they're still mining the wedding dress from Dior HC summer 2007. The last dress on post 20 looks like Lacroix's last wedding dress.

I like the opening on the back of the dresses. I'm not a fan of the big puffy red dress. The fabric and color looks cheap in post #19. The satin or sateen and velvet are bad combination or may work or look somewhat decent as separates.

I don't like all of it, but there are a lot of very lovely dresses. It does seem like a combination of various designers (eg McQueen, Givenchy) however apart from that I find it visually appealing.
