^ Balmain is ridiculously overpriced. I could only justify spending their sort of prices when it's absolutely certain that the piece is ethical, organic and one of a kind.

WOW, that's one expesive dress.
But, if I was rich, I would buy it anyway. It's so worth it. This piece is one of a kind.

are high prices the only reason why balmain is a luxury house ? ceause i'm sorry, but coton and elastane isn't luxurious at all for me... it doesn't even look confortable, balmain clothes looks always rude to wear. That's totally ridiculous. "luxury has to be confortable. If not, it's not luxury" Coco Chanel

Basically.
The crin it was made of was specially treated with chemicals to give it that metallic texture and then hand-pleated. The strings of pearls were hand-applied.
(I studied this dress for an essay last year )

^ I found it merely through various sources on the internet, one being a youtube video of an analysis of one of the dresses from this collection (not the same one but using the same technique) and another including a short interview with Nicolas Ghesquiere where he described the use of crin which is usually used on the inside of couture garments to give them structure (I went more in depth on this fact in the essay )

Those McQueen clothes looks very expensive and have lot of work, I don't think are overpriced.
I can't say the same for the others.

^I totally lost sight of the purpose of the thread, the prices and the work behind the dresses interested me more than the intention of them being over priced, i think the Balenciaga creations are well worth the money, they really are art with how much work, detail and technology behind them, i really appreciate you providing us with this information Crying Diamonds I remember him discussing the technics too.
He really makes alot of designers at the same calibre as him look like amateurs with his innovative ideas and although sometimes it isn't conventionally 'Pretty' the story behind it in how many pain staking hours behind that look and the process are well worth the compromise of it being intentionally 'Pretty'.
