I've got video from the Vivienne Westwood for Nine West press conference on my site here.

No one is talking about the Coquette shoe here but I think it's fab and much more versitile than the boot...though I those too.

I was so excited when I heard about Vivienne's collection for Nine West-then I saw the prices. Oh well, I know someone who won't be sporting those cool tartan boots this Fall

^ I actually just bought the boots last Sunday, i got them at Macy's and signed up for the Macy's card and took $100 off the boots, i was so happy. But they're still too expensive, i still have buyers remorse.

Thakoon Gets Up and Close and Personal With Nine West Appearances

Lauren David Peden
October 02nd, 2006 @ 1:03 PM - New York

In honor of his much-ballyhooed collaboration with Nine West, designer Thakoon Panichgul is scheduled to make two in-store appearances in San Francisco and New York City this week.

But unlike previous Nine West collaborator Vivienne Westwood, who popped in and out of Macy’s Herald Square flagship for a mere 20 minutes during the Fashion Week launch of her NW collection, Thakoon - as he is known professionally - promises to get up close and personal with fans via an intimate cocktail hour discussion of his work, inspiration and creative process, both in his ladylike-with-an-edge signature collection and in the limited-edition accessories line he designed for Nine West, during bi-coastal appearances at Macy’s Union Square in San Francisco and Macy’s Herald Square in New York, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3rd, and Thursday, October 5th, respectively.

“I wanted to approach this Nine West project in a way that does not dilute design,” Thakoon said via an e-mail on Monday, October 2nd of the subject he plans to discuss with fans at the Q&A session. “To offer quality product at a great price point to many more women; that's the great challenge in the design process.”

The challenge for Nine West, meanwhile, will be keeping Thakoon’s $75 lace pattern rain boots, $250 satin d’orsay pumps, $395 luxe leather tote bag, and $180 peek-a-boo lace gloves in stock.

Well actually I was in Nine West recently and picked up some really nice flats. Their collection is good for fall. Especially in the major cities

no more i guess....

Not every company is high on constant designer collaborations as a strategy. The Nine West effort, which parent Jones Apparel Group touted as a strategic move to lift the brand's overall image, now looks like it's going to be a one-season initiative. "It was always a one-year deal with a possible second year option, and we did meet some amazing designers for 2007 and began working on some product," conceded Stacy Lastrina, Jones Apparel's executive vice president for marketing and creative services. "However, for many reasons, we are moving on to other exciting concepts for the Nine West brand." Nine West kicked off the initiative with collections by Vivienne Westwood, Thakoon and Sophia Kokosalaki in September at select Macy's and Nine West doors.

I'm not surprised at all. Totally saw this coming. You could tell that there wasn't nearly as much hype about this collaboration as there has been for the ones that have been successful (Nine West didn't do a good enough job creating buzz around it and gettng the word out), plus, the products were not impressive IMO, and the price point was FAR too high. Why would someone go to Nine West to buy a $500 cape by Kokosalaki for Nine West that they could have from another reputed designer (Ok, maybe not the best of the best, but a good designer nonetheless) for the same amount. I mean, I would have been willing to pay that for designs resembling what Kokosalaki shows on the runway (not just a plain old black cape that several designers are offering this season), but I didn't see anything that stood out enough to be worth the price. By pricing their items too high, they also made it highly unlikely that their regular customers, used to paying much less for a pair of shoes, would buy any of the items on impulse.

Most telling, probably, was the fact that the items were almost all available at the end of the 1 month periods they were selling for...and then most were available on the Macy's website after the 1 month period was over. (That could be another reason it might have failed--they were available, or Nine West made it seem, at least, that they were available for too short a time period. By comparison, Target's GO! International collections are available for 3 months each, correct?)

I think it's a bit of a shame they are abandoning the strategy rather than modifying their execution...but oh well.

95 bucks for a headband....no thanks.
i'm not surprised that there's very little hype over these collaborations.
