Hmm this is interesting. I'd like him to have his own collection though.

After his spring 2009 collection left retailers asking if his "real collection" was hidden in his showroom
what does that mean? I thought everyone liked the collection (I personally didn't).

I just love Olivier Theyskens.
He's been one of my favourite designers for ages now.
I think his stuff for Nina Ricci is phenomenal and I can't understand the criticism of his most recent collection.
However, if if he were to get kicked out of the house and start his own label, that would be fantastic too.
I would love to see what he would come up with without the restrictions of having to conform, to a degree, to a specific house's established aesthetic or style etc.

I suppose retailers were disappointed to see so little that was really salable on the runway. Since it consisted almost entirely of gowns, I guess the assumption was that he had more pieces (jackets, tops, pants, knitwear, day dresses...) in the showroom and opted only to show gowns on the runway for the sake of impact.

Oh God, I hope he stays...and this is coming from someone who prefers his work at Rochas. It's just I'm SOOOOO tired of the revolving door syndrome at so many houses. It's beginning to make me really depressed and disheartened.

I guess the root of the problem is fashion houses being owned by these bizarre, non-fashion conglomerates. I wish all fashion houses were owned by groups similar to LVHM and Gucci Group...it just makes so much sense, really. Group really artistic labels together with cash cow labels and tah-dah. Problem solved. I mean, of course, they have their problems, but it just makes so much more sense than say, oh, I don't know, Proctor & Gamble owning Rochas....

If Olivier has his own line I would be overjoyed I hope he returns to the dark elegance that he had in his own line and a little bit at Rochas. He is one of my favorite designers I just hope he keeps designing he is just so talented. I loved S/S 09 I could see it being modified to sell just take off the trains (although I would wear it as is and not care) So conflicted this makes me sad and happy

Let's put Alessandra at Ricci and Olivier at Dior. John can go away since clearly he can't create anything worth of Dior anymore and continue designing that drag queen stuff on his own.

Olivier would be great at dior. Although John Gaillianos couture collection was stunning some of the other things he has done in the last 2 years has fallen short. I could see Olivier doing rtw and John doing couture.

olivier is more couture type, so it can be quite difficult for him to succeed at any house it he gets the boot from ricci.

Oh I like the idea of Alessandra at Ricci! That seems right!
Eventhough I dont like what John has been doing for the last several seasons at Dior, I cannot even imagine Dior without him.

Breaking: Olivier Theyskens Out at Nina Ricci?!

Grazia is reporting Olivier Theyskens has officially left Nina Ricci. Or at least that's the word on the front row of the couture shows, which are going on in Paris right now. Rumors that he might leave have been swirling for weeks. Both the designer and Puig president Mario Grauso tried to quiet gossip about design differences between Puig and Theyskens less than two weeks ago. But apparently Theyskens's latest collection for the house wasn't selling. Nina Ricci is yet to confirm that Theyskens is really out. But if it's true, what on earth is Ricci going to show at Paris Fashion Week, which is just weeks away? And where, oh where, will Theyskens go?

Theyskens has a following of his own, and the ability to generate buzz. He should put his efforts into properly establishing his own label - and hire people who have the ability to channel his aesthetic into creating highly desirable products, so he gets to exercise his artistry while a team who understands him guides the label towards making some money.

At this point, if Theyskens really has got talent, why work for someone else and subvert his own vision, when people already know his name?

I would love him to have his own line (although will funds will be a problem?) but I seriously want him to be at big big big house like Givenchy or Balenciaga so that he can be in the same league as Ghesqure, Tisci and Simmons, but none of them have any vacancies.
