Yeah, the majority of look pairings here don't really match. I saw a fair amount of Prada S/S 2006 in Marc Jacobs S/S 2012

A lot of the draped skirts from that collection reminded me of Lanvin from seasons past.

just because you don't see the resemblance doesn't mean the other person is wrong. furthermore, there aren't any rules here explicitly stating that we have to justify our comparisons for someone who may disagree.

Australian retail chain Sportsgirl totally ripped off Prada

Prada: S/S 11

style.com

Sportsgirl: A/W 11

sportsgirl.com.au

could Prada sue for that, I mean its not like Sportsgirl were 'inspired' by them, they completely copied the design and made it into a cheap version

^ Prada can't do anything. They don't have a patent for a black striped pink skirt. Otherwise Zara would be in a lot of trouble lol

^I don't understand why these cheap brands find the need to copy the big names, be original. Everytime I go past Sportsgirl I get angry, they rip off everyone

Well it's pretty simple. They're just leeching off other people success. Why would anyone buy the mega-expensive Prada skirt when they can buy the same one from Sportsgirl for a fraction of the price? At the same time rip-offs can sometimes force high fashion designers to create pieces with more quality and detail, so that they CAN'T be ripped off. But in general I think it's pretty low to make identical copies.

I don't know if this has been discussed. But i just realize (more than 10 years late, i think) of how Marc Jacobs is the most autoreferential designer ever. Have you realize of all the similitudes between his own label and Louis Vuitton? Every single season. Is not like the same clothes, but he shows the same colours, shapes, concepts in the two brands...

I always thought that Louis Vuitton was the more Luxurious French version of Marc Jacobs. If MJ is wild LV will be wild, if MJ is minimal you can pretty much expect Louis Vuitton to be the same except with a French Twist.
