posting etiquette* READ BEFORE POSTING

Before Posting a new thread:
  • Kindly avoid starting new threads on specific shows before you have any articles, pictures or reliable information about the event.
  • Kindly use the search function before posting a new topic.
When posting a new thread title, please remember the following:
  • Please use correct titles when you want to make a thread on a show. Which means F/W 06.07 or for couture S/S 06. All other variations will be edited to match this guideline. Why F/W collections are listed with two years. Industrywise, fw seasons are always discribed as both 06 and 07, since winter lasts 'officially' until after the January sales.
  • When you post a show from the menswear fashion weeks, please include this in the title. The correct addition to the titles is Mens. All other variations will be edited to match this guideline.
  • When you post a show from the haute couture fashion week, please include this in the title. Please do so by adding the abbreviation HC to your title. This way the titles stay short, but clear. All other variations will be edited to match this guideline.
  • When posting a show/collection from the pre-season fashion weeks: please make sure that all Resort/Cruise/Pre-spring collections are all labeled as Resort, and that the year is listed for next spring. Pre-Fall collections should be labeled that way, and the year should be listed as the current year.
  • When you post a show from the womenswear fashion weeks, this does not need to be added to the title. If you create a thread for a collection from a fashion house which also shows couture, it might be handy to add RTW to the title, though. This is not necessary.
  • Always add the city to the title where the show was held.
For example, you want to create a thread for Dolce & Gabbana mens. The one and only correct title will be:
Dolce & Gabbana Mens* F/W 06.07 Milan

If you want to create a thread for Chanel couture:
Chanel HC S/S 06 Paris

And to create a thread for a pre-season collection:
Lanvin Pre-Fall 2009 or Lanvin Resort 2010

For any other RTW show it will be:
Donna Karan F/W 06.07 New York

* Uomo and Homme are not correct, because tFS' main language is English and we strive to include that in our titles.

Guidelines for any designers wishing to start a thread for their line.

Quote:
These are the requirements for designers wishing to have their own topic in Designers and Collections;
  • Your work should be in production.
  • Your designs should be sold somewhere other than a website or online store (a boutique, dept. store or your own namesake shop are all acceptable).
  • T-Shirt companies do not qualify.
  • Please, include more that just a link to the site where we can see your work. Post images within the thread as it encourages discussion.
Please note, any designer who wishes to have a topic about their work should contact one of the D&C moderators to provide the information we require before starting a thread.

Quote:
The following is not allowed;
  • You may not repeatedly post links to their own sites in posts, nor try to direct traffic to that site.
  • Unless your collection is presented during one of the international fashion weeks every season, please do not create a new topic for each seasonal collection that comes out. Please keep it organized in one specific thread.
  • You may not try to make any sales on tFS.
  • You may not have a site logo as an avatar.
  • Excessive posts of any type that are clearly for the purpose of self promotion are considered to be spam and will be removed.

Tips on posting pictures:

We all want to see pictures, not red X's.
Usually the first pictures in a thread will be from Yahoo.News or Getty Images.
Please keep the following in mind:
  • Pictures from yahoo.com expire after a certain period of time. If you do not want them to disappear from the thread, you might want to post them as an attachment or via an online picture sharer.
  • Pictures from GettyImages will not show up via hotlinking most of the time. In order to avoid this, see above.
  • Same goes for pictures from nymag.com and style.it .. they expire as well..
  • Never hotlink from catwalking.com. Viewing these pictures will require a log-in. Members without an account will be unable to view the entire page of the thread.
  • Never hotlink from Twitter or Twitpic. The pictures will mostly not show up.
Crediting:
  • Always credit the pictures you post. Photo crediting is the professional thing to do, its good manners to give credit where credit is due.
All images that are not properly credited will have to be removed. What constitues proper crediting read here
  • Please be advised that simply posting 'Yahoo' is not sufficient crediting.
As you probably know we do not allow 'Google' or 'Google Image Search' as credit, and by the same token cannot allow 'Yahoo'.
If you have gathered the pictures form Yahoo News, you must list that as your credit.
Reader-friendly thread making and posting:
  • Separate posted images with a space or a break to avoid endless long horizontal lines of pictures
  • When you post pictures, try not to post more pictures than 6 in one post. This way threads stay organized and clear for members to read.
  • Please post full-sized images instead of thumbnails when posting collections, unless they are high-resolution images, so that members do not have to click after click each thumbnail to see the picture.
  • If you just posted some pictures and a minute later you find new, please do not edit them in your post, but post them in a new post. In popular threads this otherwise could lead to double-posts and competitive behavior.
  • Do not quote pictures. If you quote someone's post, do not forget to remove the images from it. Please keep in mind that Reposts - doesn't help our bandwidth at all.
  • Resize images that are too large to fit the site layout.
Topic / Offtopic:
  • Do not post pics of the front row or celebrities at the shows.
For this kindly use our starstyle section..
All pics of celebrities posted at the fashion week threads should be expected to be edited
  • Keep conversation on the collection, not the presence/absence of a certain model. Model talk belongs in Supporting Cast.

aaron there was nothing wrong with your post, the thread was temporarily removed while the removal of questionable content posted by others in the thread was debated.
The thread is back up and running

I have a question there, what If I found an interview with a designer and a model (in this case Jill Stuart and Alexandra Richards) where they talk about Jill's designs and fashion in general, but also about other stuff, such a music? Where can I post that?

Thank you.

Is it all intertwined ?
If not you could chop the interview up.. adding the the part about Jill's design and fashion in D&C ..and the part about Alexandra Richards in her thread..

It's quite intertwined, so chopping it up wouldn't be a good idea, really. It wouldn't make sense anymore If I tore it apart. Alex and Jill are both interviewed at the same time (over the phone, as far as I got it. I think it's a telephone conference, you know. 3 people on 3 different lines talking to each other.)
Shall I post it in both Alexandra's and Jill's thread (If there's a thread for Jill only anyway...is there? If not, shall I open one, in Star Style or in D&C?? *perplexed*)

Thanks in advance!

No.. I just checked.. we don't have a thread on Jill Stuart the designer (we have several on collections by her..) .. maybe you are interested in starting one.. maybe starting it with a biography..and then adding the interview ?

Given the intertwined nature I agree that you shouldn't chop up the interview.. but just post it in one forum (either D&C or SC) and put a link to the interview in the other forum

Okay, so I'll find a good biography of Jill and then start a thread for her.

Thank you very much for the advice!

Can I use style.com pics directly? Or I have to save the pics to my computer & then upload to an imagehost?

Style.com doesn't pose a problem with regards to hotlinking, so posting directly from there should be fine.

our search engine doesn't recognize words of less than three letters, so when posting collections showing in new york, be sure to type out "new york" or "new york city" in the title...
thank you!
