Proenza Schouler Resort 2009

Quote:
Inspired by loungewear and layering, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez turned out a collection full of contrast. To wit: a masculine, slouchy suit in delicate silk paired with a structured linen coat, and a flimsy checkered beaded dress layered over pajama pants.

Oh no, no, no.

A dropped crotch is never a good thing. Armani's been taking heat for doing pants like that for years, so what makes the boys think they're exempt from judgment?

In all honesty, it's a sloppy look. It's so droopy and mushy looking. The dress worn on it's own is nice enough, but nothing to rave about either.

ugh no. what is this? The form fitting dress isn't bad, but it's not my style. And everything else looks like some sweat suit combo you'd find in a sketchy area of town. It's not attractive at all.

I would be more than surprised if I'd hear these clothes sold well in stores - Any woman below model measurements is going to look entirely lost in these silhouettes and proportions.

must agree with you tricot & spike
it is so droopy that u'd have to be quite tall and model-like
& that dark violet with the trim in beads , quite scary .. the shape of the hips has been made gigantic http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/1...finalrglo7.jpg

anyhow ive actually been wanting to see something simpler from them from some time , like their fall 2003
so i like a lot of this the first and last looks especially

i find these super-high pantalons are nice too

anyhow what is loungewear...
robes, pajamas ? sleepwear?
this in the satin looks comfy... *wub*

Since Valentino bought a stake in Proenza, they have proposed quite different collections for press and buyers. As you already indicate, I don't expect to see this collection in the stores (I'd be genuinely surprised actually)

Having said that, this slouchy look isn't working for me. It doesn't seem very refreshing to me.

Most of the big houses seem to be playing the scheme as in doing sellable pre-collections with naturally earlier delivery windows and also often less expensive pricepoints and to reserve editorial press pieces for the défilée collection... So what normally ends up in stores is often 70% pre and then maybe 30% main collection buying...

so hopefully the two of them have reserved a couple more pieces in their collection that are easier to tap into... from what I see in here, I only see bits and pieces working as separate items...

This doesn't look like Proenza at all. It's too messy, baggy, and sloppy. The pants are terrible.

the 2nd and 3rd look is the worst. but I'm hoping there are more looks and it gets better.

i like the idea of the baggyness and slouchiness, i just think the execution needs work.

Yes, I was perfectly aware of this. I just found it remarkable that PS also divides the precollections quite clearly (both prefall and cruise) in press pieces and commercial pieces (even more than the big houses). This while the whole idea of precollections was born because of commercial reasons mostly, not to support press coverage.

and this is only the second time they present a cruise collection..
