I am imagining poorly made bustier tops. Or maybe thin strapped, empire wasted, 3/4 quarter dresses in slinkly but unflattering fabric. Of course the "classic" Proenza Schouler look offered with a much lower standard and price point. I think it will end up being a farce on PS than an actual celebratory lower priced commodity. I hope they don't do this.

target shoes are alright. but the problem is the sole is made of plastic, and are very slippery.

for issaac's target line he uses pig leather instead of calf leather. they dont publicize this of course.

I totally agree, I am so tired of these commercial collaborations

Kate Spade uses it too (and I have a piece). I've always liked the way it looks.

I am neutral on PS designing a line for Target. I love love love Target for cheap finds, but somehow all these high end designers developing lower priced clothing/accessories will become overkill. I think a lower end line sold at say, H & M, or Bloomingdales or something might work better for PS. Somewhat like KORS by Michael Kors, or Marc by Marc Jacobs. I love PS and from what i've seen i've really loved, so I dont want them to sell out so early.

Either way, ill be looking at Target for it!

I hope we don't have a repeat of what happened with Stella McCartney's Line in H&M. Everyone takes everything the first day, and it's all gone. It only really benefits the designers and those who can afford to take the day off and get to the stores...

I never even got to see the Stella McCartney....it was gone when I got to H&M.

I hope the same thing as well. I'm not too worried about it, actually. I saw quite a bit of Fiorucci still left over awhile after it first came out, but I wasn't too impressed by the things that I saw there. It could just be the neighborhood - I don't live in a very fashionable neighborhood, I have to go downtown for all my needs. Stella was only for select H&M's but there are numerous Targets so maybe you'll have good luck? I hope so. I'm curious to see how this looks.

The clothes may not be so bad...but I have to agree, the idea is awful. Most people who shop at Target have no clue who the duo is...

I just don't see a fit with PS and Target. I would feel more confident in the line if they were at H&M...just because H&M is strictly a clothing store and not a variety store like Target. I don't know. I'll have to see what the pieces look and feel like when I go to target to buy my toothpaste and toilet paper.

Target is known for bringing the best of design to the masses, but so far (IMHO--I am not impressed with what Mizrahi has done) they haven't done it with clothes. I think they *have* succeeded with housewares (Michael Graves et al). I would love to see them do it in all facets of their business. As long as children aren't making it (i.e., as long as it is fair trade), I have no problem with it. Cheap shouldn't have to mean ugly and boring. Plenty of people here and everywhere are bothered by ugliness (see the "fashion victims" thread)--so let's make good design accessible. It doesn't have to be Proenza--but why not?

Well said, fashionista-ta. I completely agree with what you said, esp. about Mizrahi. From time to time I can actually find stuff at Target that I actually like. However I do agree that people who shop at Target might not know who PS are, let alone Mizrahi...

realistically, your average target shopper probably doesn't even know what proenza schouler is.

AND, it's true, Isaac Mizrahi has made VERY disappointing "collections" for target - made cheaply and without any creativity. I doubt Mizrahi even puts any real thought into his target line. It's interesting how stores like "forever 21" can make cheap clothes but with some flare (although most of it is copying designer clothes). At least "forever 21" TRIES to make their clothes a bit interesting.

I'm all for lower end designer lines, but I feel that most designers "sell out" by not truly caring what their lower end lines look like.

No, proenza schouler is NOT doing very well. They don't make that much money (at least reading business reports in WWD) and REALLY need collaborations with big companies like Target to have longevity (unfortunately). The proenza schouler boys are talented, but probably need a good business manager.

It's interesting that Target would think about picking a less well know designer like Proenza Schouler (they're definitely more obscure to your average american).
