Raf Simons Footwear - Seven New York

I have no idea how I got on this email list, but thought that some people might be interested..

------------------------------

Hey!
While our new boutique at 110 Mercer Street is not yet ready to open (early April is realistic), we are receiving deliveries for Spring 2005 and can accept orders on all merchandise. Our e-commerce website is almost ready to launch! Just tweaking the last few bugs... If you happen to be in New York, you can schedule a private appointment or a housecall, and one of our staffers will be more than happy to help you. We want to express our most sincere thanks for everyone's continued patience and support as we rush to open the new shop! Love, Seven Staff

Raf Simons Spring/Summer 2005 Shoes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hailed as his strongest collection in years and even lauded by the ever-hard-to-please Cathy Horyn of the New York Times, Raf Simons has succeeded in storming up to the forefront of menswear design with his Spring 2005 collection. Refreshed and well funded (because of his Gwand Fashion Festival prize money), Simons took a step away from his recent statements of 'punk idolatry' toward a cleaner, leaner, and almost futuristic vision of menswear. Set to New Order's 'Shellshock' within the belly of a modern science museum in the North of Paris, the presentation conveyed a definite sense of freshness and optimism. Working entirely with a palette of white, grey tones, and black, Simons emphasized mono-chromatic color pairings, skinny tailored silhouettes, and voluminous jackets in hi-tech Swiss fabrics. The biggest surprise was the debut of Simon's first shoe collection, which I've been told has already sold out in all the boutiques to which it was sent! Don't wait on these if you want them; they CANNOT be reordered. The rest of the collection is shipping within two weeks. Not feelin the Raf Simons shoes...Pleasure Principle looks cool, I want that dirty black sweatshirt with the Porn montage, and I'm interested in seeing more of their stuff.

the shoes look like a rip off of the reebok alien stompers (which are modeled after the shoe reebok made for sigorney for the movie alien)

i actually like raf's shoes also. i don't know if they'd fit with my aesthetic. but i'd definitely buy them if they were cheap. haha.

When Nylon magazine was just a baby, it used to have T-shirt of the month. I think the Fool's Gold would fit in that spot nicely if a) they still had that section b) Nylon were still good

No problem, softgrey... I'm a big Raf fan myself, but I'm not too keen on those shoes. The email I got said that Seven New York is going to have ecommerce stuff up soon... they carry some interesting labels, that's for sure. Had anyone been to their old store? I never went.

Yeah,I think Metal is a regular at Seven

I love Seven's approach and I love the talents they continue to boaster so this new e-commerce thing will be quite nice since I don't live in NY.

I like the Raf shoes, very much actually. Perfect contrast for me since I don't really like sneakers but want the comfort of a sneaker...yet it has the shape of a boot which is something I am more partial to.

I liked the old store very much, but as far as the stuff they carry, I wasn't too keen on. It's the way they buy, it doesn't fit into my aesthetic. Raf there and Raf at A are two different animals, for example. Plus, they have a very small selection for guys. But, like Scott, I do appreciate that they support some smaller designers, and I am glad that they moved to Soho, actually. It's a plus in the long list of minuses for the neighborhood...

I wonder if they'll get some newer talents in tow for the new space?
