You think a lot of your opinion and the value we will all gain from 'understanding' it. However, you've stated it enough times on this thread for everyone to make up their own mind so please refrain from trolling this thread with rude posts insulting the comprehension skills of other forum members until you have something new to say.

never denied rei had talent ........in fact i said she is a master of marketing....of course also talent in design too .....but iMHO ......[ now thats a subjective take .....] her gennius comes from the marketing ...and her .......enigma and aura which is ..i am saying a marketing tool ....is used to the hilt eg .........read teh H &M write ups.........

marketing is para mount to a fashion companys success nowadays ........eg lvmh et al ..........what i am merely saying is ..lets not confuse the two too much....and worse of all the personality cult that comes as a by product .........
Perhaps people have been reading but simply don't agree? Understanding does not equate to agreeing.
Now, about her enigma and aura, which you claim is a marketing tool; in able to convey that enigma and aura, she has to be able to consistently and creatively deliver collections that fit that aura. That requires much more than marketing. If you think her collections and aesthete behind them are overrated (which is what I got from reading your posts) is your opinion.

geez, i'm not talking about skin tight clothing. but i grew up understanding that clothes have to fit well in order to be deemed "good".

you do know that there's something between skintight and loose, right? which would be understandable as "well fitting".

^ I did not have the heart to say it..

Bearbrick, you are correct..
I did not read any of your posts because they resemble
something that a pouty, entitled 5 year old would conjure up...
I was merely replying to the poss of those who, I assume, managed to make
sense of what you had written and I was speaking in a very general manner...
So plz don't go around insulting ppl. about 'correctly comprehending' your posts, esp. if they are not comprehensive to begin with.

Anyhow, can we get back to discussing the topic at hand, plz???

CDG is a funny label. It's built itself up so conceptually and is so highly regarded. People are very defensive of it and any criticism has to be airtight. But really, it's one of those brands that people pride themselves in knowing despite that they never actually wear any of the clothes. They will of course go out and get that promotional t-shirt or Odeur 53, or a bright green wallet. And they'll feel happy because they own some "comme".

This is the success of her marketing. But personally, this H&M thing is the best thing she's done in awhile. Really sick of her bandaged, ruffly, victorian, cut up mess look she's been beating to death.

Junya on the other hand is a totally different story, he's a MASTER.

^ Mutterlein, you bring up a great pt...
I think all major brands have those die-hard
fans who will buy anything the brand puts out...
There are victims in every spectrum...
I think Rei knows this, and like most designers of large houses,
capitalizes off these ppl.. as terrible as that sounds..

I would've loved to see Junya for H&M (Tao too ),
but for some reason I don't think it would've gone as
smoothly as this has...

Who's to say Rei's clothing don't fit well. They just have a fit that concentrates more on a certain aesthete than a bodytype. To me, clothes that don't "fit" well are those poorly cut that don't fit as the designer had in mind.

In Japan, the western norm that clothes "fit" doesn't really exist. A lot of CDG and other Japanese labels will actually sit away from the body.

well, the basic idea behind not fitting well is that it doesn't sit well on the body!

uhm, yes, that norm exists. that's no western norm. what some japanese labels might be doing can be labeled as "rebelling".

this is all very intersting discussion....maybe it needs its own thread!! to be honest i do feel CdG is a marketing genius as well as a true talent. i mean with all the perfumes and t-shirts they are selling. but what so bad about that? you can't be serouls all the time....gotto have fun aside!!

Or innovative?
If you don't like Rei's stuff, don't buy it? Of course the masses aren't going to be wearing it, so if you're so insistent on following the norm, it's not exactly a problem.

No, it really doesn't. Understand Japan's historical dress and history of body image. Corsets, restrictive underwear, the idea of forcing the body into whatever ideal is popular, this did not exist in Japan until they began to emulate Western culture in an effort to modernize. And sdespite this Japan still has a very different idea of anatomical aesthetics and how it relates to clothing.

So for you, what may be ill-fitted is normal elsewhere.
