wow, 149 canadian dollars for the black velvet sleeveless dress. does that mean that the american prices will be the same as the american dollar is on parity with the canadian?

kind of mind boggling to think about.

The Canadian dollar has dropped significantly in the last couple of weeks. I think we're down to 83 cents now. But it could go back up by the time the line comes out...

i suppose i can see how H&M might be fed up with the american and canadian weak dollar all these years and raise prices 20-35% on these "designer collections", but i see these prices as "sticker shocks"...

for instance the trenches from V+R and stella mccartney were 129.90..now the CDG womens trench is 199.90 in the states. my math might be wrong but that's 35%...

i feel that the collections arent really "for us" (n. americans), they are primarily to hype the new stores in Japan and HK...

i think its dumb to even run a national campaign in the states (for instance running the ads in all the fall fashion magazines) why bother, if consumers can't even purchase the items? and its not likely to have a halo effect on H&M causing potential buyers to rush and purchase H&m's other stuff. because a lot of H&M's items seem bland in comparison.

and its not like H&M is even planning on an american website for consumers to purchase items.

some prices found in the Vogue Paris Nov. 2008 (into the insert they add right before the article about this collection and LVxCDG)

the man costume (don't know the english word for this) is 249€ !!!!! wow ! expensive. but you can either buy the jacket or the pants. you don't have to buy both. if you don't want to ....
the scarf for women is 49.90€ - which is expensive for a scarf @ H&M!!!!
and the jacket for women is 99€ ....

I'm going to break down and just get that famous dress. Where in NYC beside the flagship store will this be? I don't think I can bear that location..

Thank God it's going to be at 59th and Lex. I was there for the V&R one and came out successful.

some of the things are reasonably priced (the shirts, shoes, etc)
others are expensive (the trench)
others are outrageously expensive (200-300$ for men's pants?!)

anyway, i already know what ill get, and that includes the trench.

the scarves are cool, wonder what they are made of.

i agree with what you said lucy. as if some of us don't already feel a bit deprived, why are they shoving it in our faces when not every h&m store is even selling it.
