The way I see it...

Is that someone like Stella McCartney was a more suitable choice as many of her clothes are trend driven, and not too far off what you might find in H&M anyway..

De-construction and tailoring cannot be made cheap.

But I really hope I'm proven wrong.

What is funny is that.. as the masses were starting to go off 'designer for..' ranges, realising that is generally crap and all hype.
Rei comes in and starts designing.. I'm predicting greedy eBay sellers..ugh

epic battle shaping up between my hatred for waiting in lines/queues and my desire for a piece of the action!

smart money is on me staying out of lines/queues

why is H&M publicizing this so early? theyve completely removed the element of surprise...i think its a bonehead business move if you ask me.

all these other collaborations for other stores (target, uniqlo, target australia) are only revealed a few months previously...

hopefully, and most likely she is looking at this as a challenge she couldn't resist. I have high hopes for it. I'm sure the manufacturing will be outsourced to save cost but think how cool this might be. I'm looking forward to it with high anticipation, because, even though it seems like a bizarre match she's mad enough to pull it off and I mean that in the most respectful way.

H&M usually announces their designer line pretty early, though usually later than this. I think Cavalli was announced June 2007.

I see it as a challenge for Rei to show that the sum of CDG's identity is more than that. How is her brand going to translate at that price point, with the clothes being made in Romania or China, in cheap fabric qualities, no options for nice finishes, and quantities that far outnumber anything that's ordered by their usual boutiques and department stores?

She won't be able to rely on the high quality of CDG's garments to carry out her design concepts successfully. Logically she'll have to design in a different way, one that utilizes rather than work against H&M's manufacturing set up.

I wonder if Rei is fully aware of the production constraints? I wonder if she'll embrace them?

TBH, I have high hopes for this. No, it probably will not be purest CDG, and I think we all know that. But if the Cavalli collaboration did anything, it raised the bar as far as what H&M could produce and therefore charge for their designer lines.

Before that it was all about cute pants, jackets, jeans and tops. Viktor and Rolf was an exception, but it didn't have any potency. I didn't sense that "gotta have it factor". Cavalli, for all the crap you can hurl at him, brought a real sense of fashion to the mix that I don't think was there in the previous collaborations. I think this collaboration can only continue in that vein.

I can't wait to hopefully see some of the pieces in the coming months. I'm hoping for some great jackets or coats.

That's what I mean , how will a balance be created ?

And spike I'm hoping some dresses make an appearance , I loved the ones for AW 08/09 , same with the coats I liked the embroidered hearts.

As for the collection I wonder if she will take a theme like V&R did and use that to centre the collection , it would make it easier and more cohesive if the collection has a concept.
