Perhaps they should indeed. Ungaro hasn't produced anything memorable in the past years as far as I am concerned. I am not even curious about what's gonna happen next to the Ungaro image...

Emanuel Ungaro lost his glory after the 90's ..he got lost in the new century & coludn't survive so long ..

did he have a retrospective show or any kind of celebration when he announced his retirement??? or he did it in silence???? I can't remeber any ????

he was one of my fav. during the 80's & 90's...I feel sorry for that

I usually liked what Vincent Dare did for Ungaro for the most part.

I'll have to admit I enjoyed the alien show by G. Balli (or is it Valli?) ..

Hum .. anyhow ... not that bad! The people who's in control of the label MUST realize that they can keeping on yelling "Off with the head!" after one/two seasons ... this is hard ... maybe they shud try harder or have a different approach screening for candidates .. stuff like this makes me to really hate money!

How is Ungaro as a brand doing, by the way? By means of selling numbers etc.

Peter Dundas leaves Emanuel Ungaro
Quote:
AN UNGARO GOODBYENORWEIGAN designer Peter Dundas has quit his role as head of womenswear at Ungaro following reports that that he and the label's management did not see eye to eye on the creative direction of the luxury French brand. He is the third womenswear designer to part ways with the company since 2005, the year Emanuel Ungaro - who founded the label in 1965 - retired and the company was sold to internet tycoon Asim Abdullah. "I want to thank the House of Ungaro and say I am proud to have worked alongside the wonderfully talented people there and wish the company continued success," said Dundas, who has formerly worked with Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix and Roberto Cavalli. His replacement is yet to be announced. (July 6 2007, AM)

One wonders what's going through the minds of the new management team (partially pictured above) as they go through new designers like new party frocks. Honestly, one might think that the house of Ungaro's solely a lauching ground for hungry young designers to get a footing to start their own eponymous lines. Between those crazy years with Giambattista Valli and Vincent Darre, one might have thought they had come to their senses by finally picking someone like Peter Dundas who looked like he honestly had the legacy of Emanual Ungaro close to his heart. oh well. I guess not.

Oh no! Sorry for them for losing such an ideal successor to Mr.Ungaro. The Spring collection was just so right for the house. Wish Peter Dundas all the best.

That really upsets me... Dundas was young, but he had some really fabulous ideas. I loved his take on 70's and 80's opulence and glamour... If anything it set Ungaro apart from everyone else. I guess they would rather just blend in...

The house of Emanuel Ungaro is all over the place at the moment! I loved what Dundas did at FW07. Such a shame!

Wow, I loved his work for Ungaro. It just seems like the current owner of the company has some stubborn views about the company, losing so many designers. I hope he goes out on his own or joins another house.

Quote:
Emanuel Ungaro said Thursday that designer Peter Dundas had departed, confirming a report in WWD.

"We thank him for his contribution and we remain fully committed to continuing the legacy of the house," said Ungaro president and chief executive officer Mounir Moufarrige.

Moufarrige declined to give a timetable for naming a successor, but suggested the change in design direction would not disrupt the company.

"There's a great team in the studio working," he said.

Moufarrige is known for taking his time in selecting designers, and for making bold choices. When he was president of Chloť, Moufarrige made waves in 1997 by replacing Karl Lagerfeld with Stella McCartney, then a relatively little-known 25-year-old fashion fledgling.

It is understood management and the designer did not see eye to eye on the creative direction of the French brand, founded in 1965.

Ungaro has had a rocky time on the road to rejuvenation, and has gone through three women's wear designers since the retirement of its founding couturier in 2005. The house also underwent an ownership change in 2005 when high-tech entrepreneur Asim Abdullah bought the brand from Ferragamo Group. Moufarrige also recently named a new designer, Frank Boclet, to rev up Ungaro's men's business.

In a statement, Dundas said, "I want to thank the House of Ungaro and say I am proud to have worked alongside the wonderfully talented people there and wish the company continued success."
