RIHANNA is designing a collection for River Island. The British high-street label confirmed today, following rumours in March of this year, that the Vogue cover girl will create a capsule offering, set to hit stores in spring 2013.
"I've been wanting to design my own collection for some time," Rihanna said today. "River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family-run business also really appealed to me. I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I'm looking forward to working with them and creating something really special."
"We are thrilled to be collaborating with Rihanna and to be the first fashion brand to work with her in this way," River Island chief executive Ben Lewis added. "Rihanna is a style icon, from street to chic she enjoys her fashion. As soon as we started to work together we knew this was a perfect fit. Rihanna will be designing the collection and we will be sharing our fashion experience with her to develop a range her fans will love." Vogue.com
I have no real interest in celeb-designed collections. Leave that to actual designers please.
In most cases aren't the celebs really just approving or suggesting things while the actual designers do all the leg-work, all the actual designing? I've always gotten the impression that designers are helped, not hindered, by the celebs who put their face on the collection.
"RIHANNA is designing a collection for River Island". Shouldn't "designing" be in quotes. I doubt she will actually do anything, they will just put her name on the clothes , she will show up to the launch and then River Island will have an excuse to charge a few quid more for the clothes.
