Rinne Niinikoski
Interesting once you read more about it
I like that everything looks like it has been touched and worked on a lot
It is a little bit trashy at times, though

At gallery ROCKET, Rinne Niinikoski presents a series of painted and printed T-shirts for men and women. Printed collages of landscapes, plant silhouettes and ornaments in old photograph / photonegative style. Unique graphic works. Besides the t-shirts on show is a Collage series. Dresses, skirts and tops which are appliqued textile collages with pearl and sequin decorations. All pieces are one-offs. The exhibition has been supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.

Rinne Niinikoski is Helsinki based fashion/textile designers Piia Rinne and Noora Niinikoski. They make unique clothes accented with experimental textile techniques. Recently they have been focusing on printing, painting, applique work, embroidery and knitwear. Through textile treatments the generic becomes distinctive. The core of their design philosophy is summarized in the following sentence: The rules of the game determine the nature of the play and the shape of the end product. Instead of concentrating on single products Rinne Niinikoski designs ways of processing ideas and working methods. As a result of framed startingpoints, the process itself creates versatile but coherent series of unique clothing. There is always certain amount of chance and accidental surprises included in the final designs. Rinne Niinikoski has a fascination for the idea of perfect mistakes in the process. The game they are playing is also about balancing the amount of control and free flow of happenings.

Piia Rinne
Born 1973
MA in textile design from the University of Art and Design Helsinki (2002), with additional studies in general and cultural history, as well as art education.

Noora Niinikoski
Born 1972
MA in fashion design from University of Art and Design Helsinki (2002) and BA with high honours from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London. Awarded the Textile Award at Graduate Fashion Week in London.

yes, would be better without the skull... what i find fascinating is that i thought of birds before i actually noticed any feather motif. it looks trashy as you said, but in a natural, organic way. like a bird that has been through a storm or something....

You're right anna, especially the 2 & 3 photos ...she looks like a bird . And the association between photo negative + bleach works really well.
