I personally love that they're refining different looks and pieces. They're clearly about evolution rather than revolution, and I think that's great.

I'll never understand why designers are expected to ricochet from one thing to another on a season to season basis. Great that there are designers who can do that and still maintain consistency in their work, but it's not a requirement. It was only last spring that they even started with these watercolor handpainted transparencies, why is it a crime to keep working on that? It's not fair to say it looks like a mashup of past Rodarte collections because this is Rodarte we're talking about. They're developing a look and signature.

I agree 100% with what you said. if they stop doing what they are good at and known for, what's the point?

I love the nude color they used

They seem like they are taking some of their old volume and translating it into more wearable silhouettes while still experimenting.

and as always, I love the hard edge mixed with femininity.

I recall you sharing my thoughts about designers showing the same thing in other threads on TFS.

I didn't say it was bad that they were showing what we have already seen, just stating the obvious.

Very beautiful! I think I'm preferring the construction of some of these dresses to FW08. The nude ones are incredible, for instance the one on Sasha is rather new for Rodarte and I wouldn't mind seeing more like it. As Spike said, they are slowly progressing their signature and since this collection is a clear refinement of their work I am happy to see more of the same.

And are there detail shots of the first dress yet?

i've been waiting all day for this show and i'm relieved to say im not dissapointed at all,
it was a showcase of unique, beautifully embelished pieces.
i wouldn't care if they stick to develop their signature looks on the seasons to come, as long as it looks as inspirational and well done as today's show.

one can not be dissapointed as it is indeed beautiful.
my first thought was they are quoting themselves too much, but thinking of it, if anyone else had done this (a more "stablished" designer) i'd say it's just the perfect continuation of their previous work... i'd like to see a bit more of summer... cashmere, and mohair looking pieces make me suffer a bit!

they have gone pretty edgy... i remember how lovely was their SS07 collection, the one with all the rose petals. wonder if they will continue to revamp their signature look for the next collection
