I really like the Olsens' aesthetic overall, their sense of luxury, and I am happy for them with their move to Paris. Hope it all comes off as planned.

Are they showing in Paris this season? Or just private appointments for editors/buyers?

this is nice:

The Olsen twins' fashion line, The Row, are partnering with Toms Shoes for fall. The resulting footwear will retail for $98-$150, steep for Toms. For every pair of Toms sold, company founder Blake Mycoskie gives a pair to a child in the developing world. [WWD]

is this something only related with the The Row/Toms or is something that Mycoskie always does? Is wondeful in any case.

ignore question, the next answer my own question.

The Row’s Tom’s Are Less Charitable Than The Originals
by Justin Fenner | 1:10 pm, February 14th, 2011

We love it when fashion people decide to do something for charity — especially those with the considerable resources to really make an impact. So when we heard that designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen of The Row would collaborate on a line of shoes for Tom’s, the charitable footwear company, we were pretty excited.

That is, until we realized that the Olsen-approved espadrilles would cost twice as much as the original shoes. The idea with Tom’s is that you buy a pair for between $40 and $50, which pays for another pair of shoes to be made for a child who lives in a place where shoes are a luxury. The Row’s versions will sell between $98 and $150 — but instead of generating enough money for two or three additional pairs of shoes to be made, each purchase still only generates one other pair.

We understand that the shoes are more expensive because of the Olsen’s cachet and because they’re probably using better materials than you’ll find in a pair of standard Tom’s shoes. But we’re betting that the kids who reap the benefits of this collection won’t get better quality footwear than the kids whose shoes came from sales of traditional Tom’s shoes.

Blake Mycoskie, who founded Tom’s, had this to say to WWD:

“We recognize that it’s a luxury to be able to give, and everyone at Toms takes this to heart,” he said. “The feeling we get from being able to give new pairs of shoes to children in need is extraordinary, and with The Row, we’ve found a partner whose amazing interpretation of our classic alpargata has truly taken our product to an entirely new level.”

And we agree — the product is at an entirely new level. Of price and press, but not charity.

The Olsens And The Row Team Up With TOMS Shoes, Make Them More Luxe

Leave it to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen to create a pair of super luxe TOMS shoes. The duo will team up with Blake Mycoskie, who famously founded TOMS shoes, simple flat espadrilles with a charity angle: for every pair sold, the company gives away a pair to a child in need.

The Row for TOMS shoes will feature plaid, wool cashmere and herringbone styles that will retail for $98 to $150 come fall (see above for a sample). Mary Kate told WWD, “The giving is immediate. Having the opportunity to be a part of something so meaningful has made the collaboration with Toms special to everyone at The Row.”

The extra upshot? A pair of The Row-designed shoes you don’t have to take out a loan for.

Vogue Review

Quote:
By Mark Holgate

It all began, lest we forget, with a deceptively simple-looking, but actually French-seamed, soft, drapey tee. The Row, the brainchild of Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, started there because it pinpointed the territory of their own personal style; something utilitarian yet also able to be elevated to whole new heights, as comfortable—quite literally—when worn with vintage couture as when thrown together with ratty old biker leathers and leggings. They’ve moved on, of course, to a quite staggering degree, to the extent that you can sit in their Chelsea studio early on a Monday morning, and see clothes of such ineffable cool and elegance and agelessness and think, well, why couldn’t they produce one of the very best collections of New York thus far?

“We wanted to have fun with it all,” said Mary-Kate. “To play with the furs, and the accessories.” So, what better way to play than to wear a belted, voluminous leopard-print goatskin coat or cap-sleeved, tightly waisted, full-skirted taupe wool dress, than with chunky cream socks, needlepoint slippers, and a fox-pelt head wrap that looks like the kind of hat Ara Gallant might have whipped up? And then also play everything down, instead, with a chic (sorry, I know, isn’t everything in fashion, but there really is no other word for it) claret Persian lamb jacket and velvet cropped pants, or a loose black chiffon T-shirt dress with panels of black beading, worn with tiny shorts, a nascent trend of the past few days (both on the runways, and surprisingly, given the weather, on photo-bloggers outside the shows alike). The Row touched on the return to opulence that has been firing and furring up the New York fall runways, but they’re still thinking the same way they did with that tee. The long alligator gloves, for instance: The reverse side is in leather, so you can happily tap at an iPad, iPhone, or iPod. Genius.
