So I went to Barneys today and they had 5 pieces left of The Row. The "french seam" that appeared in all the pieces are reminiscent of Rick Owens. I actually liked the line - although $650 for a floor-length long sleeve t-shirt dress seemed a bit much. I'd rather shell out that kind of dough for a Rick Owens. The material is very nice - I think they work mostly with modal, so everything is soft, soft, soft. I did end up buying a floor-length tank dress for the summer. As I was paying, the sales associate told me that "it was recommended that I tuck in the dress into the pocket of my jeans, if I was to wear the dress with jeans, or use a belt to blouse it over - they do not want you to hem the dress at all." It was kind of funny, the dress is very long, I may have to hem it, but I'll play around with it first. I don't really understand the "no hem" recommendation, since the Olsen twins are rather short themselves...

Oh, and it wasn't on the co-op floor - in the Barneys here in NYC, it was on the 6th floor - along with Lutz & Patmos, the Barneys house cashmere brand, Piazza Sempione, and the lingerie section... so I don't think the freestanding Co-op stores would carry The Row.

Tuck the dress into the pockets? That sounds odd.

^ Thanks for the report, kokopuff! How sheer is the material, can it be worn alone? Modal has a tendancy to pill, doesnt it? I hope it doesnt happen with their tops. May I ask how much did you pay for the tank dress? I think I want a mini tank dress.

sorry for all the questions!

WTF, they already have a collection out in stores despite ZERO press? I mean, I can understand their desire for exclusivity, but there's no way that stuff is going to sell from a tiny corner in barneys/nordstrom/etc if no one's heard of it....

I got my "tank" and it's actually a dress. I'm a little bit disappointed just becuase I was looking for the perfect tank or tee, but I'm keeping it since it perfect to wear underneath dresses that are a little bit see through or too short. The french seem is made so that theres just one seem right? Mine had the usual two seems which I was also confused about. I took a pic I'll post today.

Aw no! That sucks GG! So dissapointed for you...about the french seam...I believe a french seam is a seam which is finished by enclosing the raw edges within the seam. Here's a pic:

(wallypop.net)
It looks really nice and neat, and it's used for delicate fabrics.

^ it's really not bad, just not what I was expecting I think I'll still get a tee from the the row that I'll get more use out of.

Thanks for the pic of the french seam! Maybe only the cashmere pieces have that? The seam on mine looks identical to all my other tees.

In the Chicago Barneys, it was put right at the entrance to the second floor, beside Lanvin and Vionnet, and in front of Balenciaga. That's some prime real estate for a brand new label!
