Pilati had a good sense of who the Yves Saint Laurent customer was. Hedi lives in a fantasy world where he thinks pretty young things will wear his clothes to Glastonbury and trash them. He has really lost touch with reality. Its a shame.
I think it is quite obvious that Hedi isn't looking to keep the previous customer, rather bring a new one to the house, particularly his Dior Homme customer from years ago. In terms of it being too feminine, sure, a few items may be a bit over the top, but I don't see that being an issue (again: DH), because far too many people were happy to shell out $$$ for his creations at DH, despite how specific and unforgiving the line could be.

Personally, I like this aesthetic and am happy to see it back, because as far as I am concerned, not many designers (if any?) are doing this look right now.

I suppose only time will tell how successful everything has been. The proof will be in the numbers.

balmain has had the skinny lux rocker look on lockdown for the past seasons...and yes the clothing can be seen as feminine, although androgynous is probably more accurate, so much that 50% of the menswear is for sale in the womens collection just in smaller sizes.. pretty smart on the design & manufacturing side (less is more)

I like this very much too, even if it's a rehash of his Dior Homme work, at least those of us that weren't there when he made the brand such a huge deal can enjoy it now. Maybe is a silly excuse to excuse his non innovation for Saint Laurent from Dior Homme, but I can't help it, and here's a hoping for greater things.

i personally have no problem with it resembling his work with Dior homme, i think having a well defined aesthetic is a good thing

and i still see some differences, the details really are quite different

My gripe with this, and damn near everything I've seen from his menswear from his new tenure is at YSL, is that it all looks like clothes that a teenage boy (with money) would wear. I can see this on Stephanie Seymour's 2 sons way before I can see this on a grown man..esp. one who's 32 .

This is why I miss Pilati..he had a firm understanding that the "YSL man" should be just that: a man.
