i am astonished at the number of these lines in recent years....
i really don't know what to think...

...

meg's right though...
for example....
isaac doesn't design the target stuff...
they just use his name and he makes appearances etc...
he's sort of creative director i guess...
but target has other designers on staff who do the designs...
i think isaac does hire those people or at least approves them for the position...

vera doesn't even design her own collection...
someone she hired from marni is doing it.......

I guess it must be a huge move for Vera Wang to design an affordable line and sell it to a mass population and I give her props and everything, but Khol's is just eww to me.

I had no freakin' clue! I so disappointed and beyond angry, though it does make a lot of sense...

Its all about business and making a profit for their respective companies. Vera Wang reaching out to the "average people" doesn't "lessen" her more exclusive line. It's being competitive with the other designers moderate wear.
Personally for the most part,I like this new trend. It shows how creative big name designers can be on a lower budget scale.

BTW-I don't think all big name designers should venture in this area.

It makes a heckuva lot of sense. I don't think that many designers who have bridge or moderate lines actually design the gear, although I suspect they do sign off on what goes to the stores under their name.
I have never been in a Kohl's. I would like to see what VW does. As an aside, I'm not wild about Oscar de la Renta's moderate line. I saw some skirts in a jobber the other day, and I don't do polyester satin. He could have done a nice cotton or a silk.

Does any ready-to-wear designer actually design the whole line? Doubt it.

I think this is a little low. The collaborations are going too far. I'm getting sick of them.

Very Vera by Vera Wang to launch at Kohl's

I just found this article in Yahoo!news, hope it's not a repost!
Quote:

Lindsay Sammon

New York - Kohl's Corporation in partnership with Vera Wang announced today that they will be the newest duo in the ongoing designer-meets-department-store partnership trend with the launch of Very Vera by Vera Wang, a premium fashion and lifestyle brand for Fall 2007.
"The Very Vera by Vera Wang premium collection is modern and addresses the fashion demands inherent in today's female shopper," said Kohls' President Kevin Mansell.
The collection will be available in Kohl's department stores as well as kohls.com, and will include sportswear, intimate apparel, jewelry, footwear, handbags and other accessories, and linens.

SIMPLY CHANGED: It looks like Vera Wang's exclusive Kohl's line has undergone a name transformation. While initially slated to be launched as Very Vera by Vera Wang, save-the-date calls for a launch event next month made late on Friday referred to the line as Simply Vera. A Vera Wang spokeswoman confirmed the name change to Simply Vera/Vera Wang. "This was chosen as the collection has the ease, nonchalance and whimsy that is quite simply…Vera!" she said.

Of course, it also could be the result of pending trademark litigation. As reported in February, VEW and VWK Licensing were seeking a declaratory judgment that the Vera Wang brands set to be sold exclusively at Kohl's do not infringe on another trademark. The licensing companies had asked the court to declare that the Very Vera and Simply Vera marks did not infringe on the "Vera" trademark owned by Atlanta-based The Vera Co. That case is pending. The unveiling of the exclusive Kohl's line is expected to take place on May 10 at the Altman Building in New York.
