I swear I'm usually not a hit & run poster, but this is very Marc Jacobs- the colors, the shapes, the styling, everything really

I always find it hard to see what he's trying to achieve with his designs. There's the sugary cute little pastel dresses. There's some interesting and edgy black pieces. Some frumpy 50's housewife frocks. Most of it I just don't get, I'm afraid. What's worst is his new tendency to over-style his shows and lookbooks. That bright yellow and turquoise lipstick does nothing for the outfits, IMO. I do kind of like a few things in the first set of pictures but there are some truly hideous elements, like the fur pockets and the awkward length of the sweaters and pants.

There are some really nice ideas in this collection, but I feel they need refining because more than a few look awkward.
The best pieces are those with the voluminous shoulders, IMO.

that two-colored blazer in #4 is pure genius! I love that there are always pieces that really stand out, he just never fails to disappoint me

Along with De la Renta it's my favourite Pre-Fall 2012 collection by now. I love the colours and the shapes. Such a lovely presentation

i agree with psylocke that the hair and make up are a miss...
but i really like the collection...
i'm not always a big fan of girlie and sweet...
but this is girlie and sweet in a twisted enough way to make it seem modern and cool in a lot of places...
a lot of really nice knits and a great colour palette...
works for me...

Quote:
"Classic, early fall" was Thakoon Panichgul's word on pre-fall, May delivery date be damned. Some of his fellow designers have been tending toward spring when designing their ranges this season, but an autumnal mood suited the new collection. In a warm, pastel-inflected palette heavy on grays, khakis, and creams, and with cool-weather fabrics like blanket-printed wools and fuzzy Mongolian lamb, the clothes looked ahead to a chill in the air. In fact, with its gamine twist on boyish staples, it almost seemed to go back to class: The cutaway blazers, cable-knit sweaters, and slip-on leather loafers looked like standard-issue uniforms from the Thakoon School for Girls.

But this designer never strays far from dresses, his particular signature. Many are drawing eyes to the waist this season, but Panichgul, to his credit, has been nipping in at the middle for seasons. He amped up the volume with full-skirted frocks, bedecked at the back with darts so deep they became design elements unto themselves.

Quote:
If Thakoon Panichgul’s spring collection exploded onto the runway in a heady cloud of bold, near-clashing color and mesmerizing print, pre-fall gently whispered in palette-cleansing heathery and nude pastel tones. Not that the designer’s mid-season presentation was created with the intention of having the same impact as his previous runway show—it is by nature, a far more low-key, commercial affair—but according to Panichgul, it’s “a starting point for fall. We have such a short amount of time between the two collections that we work on them concurrently.” And as a teaser of what’s to come, this certainly looks promising.

“Something more grown-up and classically feminine,” is how Panichgul described it. But that would be classic in a very modern interpretation of the word and with luxury as the underlying subtext. Yes, there was a shirtdress, but heightened with cable-knit sleeves and pockets; a T-shirt frock, but with a cartridge-pleat waist and made from the finest calfskin posing as silk radzimir. “Lush American sportswear fabrics were my inspiration,” he said, “because I always come back to the weather when I think about fall.”

But what really set these familiar easy silhouettes apart from the wardrobe staples every woman already owns was a clever twist in construction. Exaggerated balloon sleeves on tops and jackets—and the extra buoyant puff that had been added to dresses from waist to hem—lent the clothes a fresh, sculptural quality. And what appeared to be layering—a flocculent Mongolian lamb’s wool vest over a finer grade of the same type of wool jacket—was in fact a one-piece cropped-sleeved coat. “It was about exploring a soft type of tailoring and combining fabrics to get a three-dimensional effect,” said Panichgul, who extended that textural attitude to shoes too: “Cable-knit details became this twisted braiding,” he explained, pointing to the edging on his blush-hued calfskin footwear. And with all of the gentle, soothing colors and voluminous, feminine characteristics at work in the collection, it seemed right to the designer to unveil his first pair of loafers. “I didn’t want anything dainty,” he concludes. “The shoes keep all of these other elements grounded.”
