It seems that ruffles are Valentino, it's the sign, it's easy, put some ruffles on some simple dress and now its couture.
BUUUUT, it's not THAT disaster from last time, a like a little.

It's all gone with Garavani himself. Sometimes it's hard for me to think this still is Valentino, actually.

As usually with their recent couture collections, I like the venue, that's it.

this is such a dissappointing! no dobut, there are some really cute dresses in that collection, but it´s still the same. they re-work still the same philosophy - even colour tones or shapes are not different. and btw. can you tell me, what is haute couture here? for example, the long red dress. is it about fabric? is it about shape? or just about possibility to name something as haute couture. sad

It's not as bad as it is bland and disappointing. Like everyone has said, just same old same old. How long do these two have the position for? Are sales really good for them? That's the only reason I can understand keeping them on.

There were a couple of "Valentino red" looks in this collection. The simplicity is so modern, no?

Are those from S/S Paris Fashion Week? Sorry for my stupid question.

I really like this collection, I love the way those pieces mix something very actual and something very old, which makes the result really good.

I'm a bit surprised here! I actually like certain pieces. They played with the usual lacey, girly, sissy elements and still managed to present some unembelished and pure garments in between (perhaps as a show filler). Maybe this is their response to the current minimalist wave and I don't think they deserve the 'haute couture' label but still, I find them very exquisite. More specifically, this dress:

And what is up with this mute color palette? It has been the same for ages now! The Valentino I remember used to present some vivrant colors and still remaining glamourous. Ok, I get it: they want to reach a younger target but I find their aesthetic lacking in that glamour factor which, for me, compromises the DNA of the house.

i like the collection but do feel like they should have allowed the designs to be more over the top. i agree, it is very similar to that of their ready-to-wear- but couture is seen in the details, often times those details need to be seen up close & couture is made by hand. the textiles used are delicate, which were most likely tough to sew because of their delicacy. all that said, i dont think the collection is horrible. just because it's not a grand showcase like galliano with dior doesn't mean that these pieces aren't beautiful. restrained & simple, yes- ugly, not exactly. a solid effort, would like to see more drama though- after all, this is couture.

The abused the ruffles, it's like they couldn't think of anything else to do.

Phenomenal. This collection is sublime, their best effort yet, and I really hope the pair have found their stride, this sure looks like a good start.

All the comments about this not being "couture" are disheartening and shows just how little people actually know about real couture or good clothes for that matter. No theatrical pieces here, but you can see the amazing workmanship and craft just from photos on style.com, these clothes are nothing but couture.

I'm surprised I like this, I really am. But I am really happy that I do. I agree with kknardi, definitely their most sophisticated work. BRAVO VALENTINO!!!
