No, no, no. Not for Valentino. This is not good at all.

i am extremely happy for Valnetino taking risk and making some cleansing. all i can see for now is the new silhouette, the new volumes and proportions. and it's promising. aren't we all bored with the same sparkle-sexy-gimme-more-red-dresses concept of what is called Valentino? it's always interesting to see some freshness and pushing boundaries. do you miss Garavani so much? not me. sincerely.
the collection is well... a bit of a statement. you can't see the clear new vision yet, but you've got the idea there is a new vision. it will take time to make this vision strong and convincing, but somehow the first step was done and it impressed me in a very good way.
good luck, Alessandra!

This is so unlike Valentino. Its nice but kind of bizarre that he would wait to the end of his career to do something different. But I'm sure his last collection will be the typical Valentino I know and love.

^^This collection was not designed by Valentino. It was designed by Alessandra Facchinetti, who is his successor.

well that explains everything. Not a good start for her. I wonder what Mr. Garavani thought of it.

i think it's a wonderful new direction. i love the subtlety and the whispers of the fabrics. she seems to be reasonably feeling her way through and taking it slowly. doing exactly what valentino did would have been quite an arrogant and risky approach i think.

I totally agree with you.
I find this collection to be very strong in spite its simplicity.
Its very feminine and wearable.

I certainly can't consider myself an expert, I pretty much go by my own personal observations. Alessandra Facchinetti has already made a mark in the fashion world and could venture out on her own, I suppose. I read that she is studying the legacy of Valentino, so as not to stray too far from the signature style. Yet this preview seems to be a very bold statement, as it appears to be venturing into completely new territory. The fashion world is steeped in tradition to keep the legacy of a House alive. I wonder if that really is necessary, when a designer chooses to retire, especially when it may move into a completely new direction. Chanel is an example of a legacy that has continues to honor its heritage, while also incorporating modern ideas, yet many others move into completely new directions. Personally, I feel if that is the situation, they might as well retire the namesake also. If another garment with the Valentino name is never again to be created (after the Couture show), the legacy would still live on forever.

its a bit to hard and gothic for Valentino though , she should maintain the aesthetic of the house.

I agree that this is unlike Valentino himself, but at the same time I find this to be perfectly Valentino for the house, for today. It is elegant, mature and luxurious. This is just a more modern-day take on that. Sure, I'll miss the feathered and jeweled pink eveningwear but in all fairness, that stuff only ever looked good on the runway, and the average Valentino customer doesn't have Jessica Stam's body or youth.
