i see runner...
funny- you like the top halves of the bottoms that i went for... ...
now that i took a closer look- i agree
the blue coat is good- classic but with the extra pockets...and a good shape...
it would be a good and useful thing to have in one's closet...
**though i think it would like to see it with some elegant trousers rather than a full skirt...
and i like the trench more now that i see the back detail...
especially the big pockets and the blue under the collar...
though i am not completely convinced about those big buttons... ......
*the big buttons on some of my limi things make them a bit more difficult to wear in an easy way...
so i think that is why i am unsure about it, frankly...
even though i like it...it's almost a bit too much like a cartoon...
which is fun, but also a bit silly...
i am really always trying to be elegant and/or chic...
and it's hard to be silly and elegant at the same time...
it's possible...but it's not really very easy, imo... ...

I see softgrey
while I have thought the buttons on some of the pieces by limi, vivienne, etc were actually big, the buttons on the trench seem to be just on the big side, not so big to me.
maybe that's because we almost nationally got too accustomed to seeing big buttons in cartoons yes lol.
off topic: the cartoon is by shotaro ishinomori.
it's from "robot detective". it's sort of our robocop.
the author was very popular especially around the time yohji was a student.
it might have been mostly for kids. but it looks quite stylish even by today's standards.
you may recognize shotaro's work since yohji used it on his clothes.

ok- sure...
i agree that the buttons on the trench are not super large...
but you see what i mean...
and - since we are talking about this now...
i also think that this 'cartoon-like' style is often present in japanese designer collections...
not the older designers so much...
but more the ones who are probably from our generation...
because they probably grew up in a japan where anime became so popular and it seems to have seeped into the culture...
it's true that when i look at some streetstyle pics of younger japanese people...
they almost look like cartoons in the way they are dressed...
all the oversized clothes and multiple layers and large prints and exaggerated details...
it may even be true that--- the younger the people ...the more they dress like cartoons...
not everyone of course...
but for sure this is something that is especially true of contemporary japanese design/style...
there are a few other designers in the world who specialize in this sort of animated design...
but it is just so very prevalent in so many japanese collections...
don't you think?
i have to say- personally, i find it VERY charming...
and sweet...almost innocent and childlike...it appeals to something very deep within me...
we may have actually just hit on the very elusive reason why i am so drawn to so many japanese pieces...
it's because i always wanted to be like a cartoon...!!!...
with blue hair...!!! ...
...

yes it could be true that in some way cartoons fostered some of the japanese designers and the cartoon-like dressing, but also the stuff for kids in those days was clearly influenced by a certain futuristic style of the 60's fashion as I said in history of style forum. so I'd say they may be grandchildren of pierre cardin etc.
so you keep in you here a cartoon with blue hair from the past and someone chic like hepburn at present or all-time ?
according to emanuele tesauro, a true poet is someone who has the ability to connect the things the most remote from each other.

ah yes...
maybe our generation is generally like that...grandchildren of pierre cardin...
but also charles eames and saul bass...etc...
i know i am personally influenced a great deal by the late 50's/ 60's...
i think everything/everyone in the 80's was, right?
and i think that yes- all those things are in me, always...
plus several more things... .........
and if that tesauro quote is true...
then surely YOU...my dear runner...must be considered a true poet...
* i'm thinking now of the bugs (insects) you posted as a comparison to several designers' styles...
that was brilliant and poetic...
*but what did you write in the history of style forum please and where...?
i had a look around but am not sure what you are referring to...
sounds interesting...

wim neels! now that's a name that conjures up sublime images for me. i still have a tuxedo style zip-front blouson jacket of his in my closet. beautiful cotton material and superb cutting. and of course his signature "titles" on the cuff.
i love that trench too. the shape as you say is indeed splendid. reminds me of some of that classical stuff from the 70's that was actually kind of nice. like charlotte rampling in the night porter or anna karina in the salzburg connection. that kind of cool 70's look was wonderful.
glad you liked the insects post softgrey.
I was afraid that it was like a kid's summer vacation diary.
btw, just remembered shugo tokumaru you were talking about long ago is largely influenced by cartoon music.
