it's funny because i have clearly zeroed in on very different things than the media and everyone else has...

there are a number of things from this collection that i would like to have in my closet...

and, ultimately, that is the definition of a successful collection...
that the customer sees things they like and want to buy and wear...
i don't need any bells and whistles right now...
i need clothes that are flattering and comfortable and that i won't look silly in..

:p

thanks for the additional images runner...

clearly- that is NOT a dull grey tunic......it's not even grey...
i just know it will be much longer on me and will be impossible to shorten...
...
i also don't know what other shoe might work---the white bootie is just soooo good with it...
it's rare that i want a whole look from a show...but that one is right on the money...
perfect in every way...
I think i'd even wear that silly necklace and not feel stupid...
.........

I've been enjoying the narrative structure. Within a kernal (opening and closing sections) of eastern drapery meets western tailored forms lies - at the start end, military; at the close end [moving inwards] the Americana, the westernism, of red, white and blue. And stripes. And a couple of metallics. Armour, or wider - science. One layer further in toward centre is, from start end, some fairly togaish forms. From rear end direction - smocks. Within that robes. And sarongs.

We might say thatthe outer layers are dealing with protectionism inherent in differencedialogue, industry and war. Within the protective (aggressive) shell is an at peace with nature [particularly coastal references] core. The structure is like that of a shell. Who's inner is vibrant light, a sentient being.

Runner, thank you for the images. Wonderful reference point! Now I see where Yohji is coming from with regards to the accessories.

you know...yohji talks in his book about this...
but it seems that runner ALWAYS has some insight into yohji's work...
and it seems to come directly from being Japanese and being in Tokyo...

Yohji always disliked being referred to as a "Japanese designer"...
but in the book he has a passage written by someone else who is also Japanese and refers to the fact that one cannot escape this sort of thing...
when you are Japanese, there are certain cultural andn environmental factors that will affect you, whether you are aware of it or not...

same goes for any culture and geographic location...

Runner---
you said this once...
i think we were talking about some floral print (maybe it was a chrysanthemum?)
and i said something was "very Yohji"...
and you said that you thought it was just Japanese...

I know that I have learned a ridiculous amount about Japanese culture due to your explanations regarding Yohji's designs...
it's kind of amazing...

you are welcome Uemarasan, of course we don't know what the story is truly like until yohji talks about it though.

softgrey, yes I'm sure we discussed some chrysanthemum designs before, but apart from that maybe it's a certain look from limi's collection and you said there was something very yohji about it and I said I had thought there was also something culturally japanese.
especially when the subjective draws back (like when he allows himself to do what he used to hate), culture in turn might be laid bare. and that culture often shows buddhistic influence that has been developed in its own way.

i believe that idea is in the sentence before that beautiful (and very fitting) Adorno line that you quoted in the CDG thread.
You've just made me think of both collections--and Rei and Yohji--in a completely new way.

very inspiring stuff, thank you runner.

great to see you Inaya

glad something seems to have inspired you laika

also when that influence (which, again, has grown vernacularly) appears as aesthetics, it may often incline to evanescence (driftwood necklaces, disintegrating lacy skirt, capricious/nonlinear motion of sheer fabrics, etc) rather than perpetuation.

I'm drooling so badly. This man never looses his touch. Amazing mix as always the laid back + tailoring-- simply exquisite.

though you just saw me make a mistake the other day.

anyway, when I say things like that, what's in mind that overlaps with the overall impression of his work is an afterimage of this kind of scene you'd see in a temple, for instance.
