Your Favorite Season/Year
Four times a year is fashion week. Every once and while, an entire season seems to be below average, with only a few standout collections (SS 07 comes to mind). Most of the time, a season turns out to be a pretty even mix of great and forgettable/ disappointing collections (FW 08 comes to mind). Occasionally, we are blessed with an entire season of phenomenal shows. The kind of season where almost every designer in all four cities puts on a fantastic show...
So which season/year (RTW or HC) is your favorite? For me, there is one season that stands out above the rest over the past 5 or so years. Ready-to-Wear Fall/ Winter 2006 One of the most mind blowing seasons EVER in my opinion. There must have been something in the water...or air...that caused almost every designer to put out some of their best work ever. Highlights include: Marc Jacobs (his best work ever, and one of my favorite shows period) Calvin Klein (that herringbone was fantastic!!!) Ralph Lauren (classic, beautiful Ralph) Rodarte (SO sophisticated...and that opening look on Irina!!!) Bottega Veneta (just gorgeous) Dolce & Gabbana (Their best collection...and those evening gowns were stunning!) Fendi (best Fendi collection ever) Gucci (Frida's best effort) Prada (My favorite Prada collection...intellectual but not to the point where it looked like Miuccia was trying to hard..so effortless and modern) Versace (the beginning of the NEW, SOPHISTICATED Versace...Donatella's rebirth!) Alexander McQueen (his greatest collection ever and one of, in my opinion, the greatest shows of all time) Balenciaga (Nicholas' breakthrough collection...the collection that showed up in EVERY magazine editorial for the entire season!!! And my favorite Balenciaga collection (tied with SS 06)) Chloe (grungy, girly, youthful...I loved it) Christian Lacroix (I'm a sucker for matador inspired fashion...and Lacroix, so this was a match made in heaven!!!) Givenchy (SO chic...I LOVE all those LBD with the models holding two purses) Hermes (so chic, so sophisticated, so Gaultier...just perfect) Jean Paul Gaultier (Those trenches! Those corsets! Those sweaters! That hair! Those cats and dogs and owls!) John Galliano (A very poignant collection) Louis Vuitton (take the poignancy out of his signature collection, add a dash of hiphop, and you've got this show...it was FANTASTIC.) Miu Miu (I ADORE those brocade minis' with the silkscreened still life flowers and vases!!!) Rochas (The last, and best Rochas collection and one of my favorite shows of all time...) Valentino (In my opinion, Valentino's most modern collection...it felt youthful) Viktor & Rolf (Stunning!!! And those silver dresses!!!) Yves Saint Laurent (to me, this collection is THE definition of modern chic, sophisticated dressing.) There hasn't been a season like that in a long time...to this day, I still am obsessed with FW 06. ![]()

^As usually, couldn't agree more. FW 06 was just impossibly fantastic in every possible way
![]() As I'm a terribly sentimental person, I also love SS 07, as it was the time I really got into fashion and it will forever remain one of my beloved seasons reminding me of such a great time in my life, same goes with FW 07.

^^SS 07 has grown on me a lot (even though in the first post I said that I thought it was a generally disappointing season).
I also think that Ready-to-Wear Fall/Winter 2003 was an exceptional season. Standouts include... Alexander McQueen (The tundra collection! An extremely memorable show with some painfully gorgeous clothes) Balenciaga (That football-esque Renaissance corseting was wonderful) Dior (Sexy, slutty, high concept, high energy...fantastic, classic Dior par Galliano) Gucci (Um...few words can describe this collection. Epic may be the only one) Helmut Lang (Perfection. My second favorite Lang collection (FW 04 being my first)) John Galliano (Hilarious, fan-tastic clothes...you can't help but smile!) Lanvin (Gorgeous clothes...as always, Alber!) Louis Vuitton (Love the medieval/mod look...some super gorgeous coats) Prada (beyond chic) Rochas (Olivier's debut collection for the house and it was STUNNING) Viktor & Rolf (The Tilda show! Some of V&R's best work) YSL (PERFECTION. The 40's via the 70's look was so gorgeous. From the color palette, to the furs, to the afro's, to the lucite jewelry, to the Diana Ross and the Supreme's soundtrack...EVERYTHING about this show was a knock-out.)

^^I agree, gius. While RTW FW was the standout of the 2006 seasons, in my opinion, the whole year was an extremely memorable one. RTW SS 06 had some FANTASTIC shows, and both Haute Couture seasons produced some of my favorite Couture collections (Chanel FW 06, Lacroix SS 06 and FW 06, Dior SS 06, Gaultier FW 06, Givenchy FW 06, for example).

yeah i feel like if you go by year there seems to be a general message on the catwalk
like there seemed to be too much decoration for 2009... i think easiness, or "simple" was big in 2006? there were a lot of bold shapes beautiful colours, fresh combos so clean, i think the 'child-like' style was also in boom then ![]() |

I LOVED s/s 07. Chanel and Dolce&Gabbana collections from that season are one of my favorite collections of all time. And I don't know why, but I loved s/s 08. That's pretty weird but that season was so colorful, so light. My favorites were Chloe and Balenciaga.

I have to agree with F/W 06/07. Prada, Balenciaga, and YSL could have been the only houses that showed that season and it still would've been the best on record. Those three and Chanel couture S/S 06 are easily my favorite collections to date, but it's kind of unfortunate that nobody has outdone them even three years later...

omfg i LOVE F/W06! every designer did something cool and beautiful. that season produced such BEAUTIFUL clothes and collection. I mean when i think of FW06, i think of Chanel, YSL, Chloe, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Balenciaga, Calvin Klein... i could go on and on with how many collections were soo good.
i also want to point out ss06 but then again that's when i barely started getting into fashion. ugh, Chanel that season was IT for me as well as Balenciaga. SS07 was another HIGH for me. just phenomenal. oh and another favorite of mine is SS08. i loved how it was a season full of color and a really artistic season. From chanel's star americana collection to prada's faries to Louis vuitton's crayola explosion to balenciaga's florals to dolce's paint splattering to miu miu's harlequins to proenza schouler's cool girls...ugh i could go on and on but that season every one of my favorite designers was doing something beautiful. |

For me it's gotta be Spring 2007!
EVERYTHING was amazing, RTW and HC. Armani Prive(best Armani Prive collection evah!!), Dior Couture, Chanel, and Christian Lacroix. And for RTW, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, etc. 2007 was an amazing year, both S/S and F/W. So amazing.
