Best Albums of 2011
As we approach the end of the year I'm curious to know what were your favourite albums of 2011 ! Nothing really stood out for me but then I didn't listen to a lot of albums, so I'd love to read your reviews and thus discover new artists/bands !

Really enjoyed "Cults" debut album, and "the Kills" new one is fabulous too. Florence and the Machine would be on there, perhaps the Arctic Monkeys new one. Was the Strokes album this year? If so, add that. Hmmm. Good question. Need to think more on it!

Cut Copy's Zonoscope album is by far my favorite album of 2011. I thought the previous album was hard to surpass, but they gave another fabulous electronic album. I also LOVED Neon Indian's Era Extraña album and The Drums' Portamento album.

Adele - 21
Bigbang - 빅뱅 미니앨범 4집
Lights - Siberia
M. Pokora - Mise à jour
Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Make a Scene
Tinie Tempah - Disc-Overy

I'm sure there's more. I actually found this year better than last year. I at least felt that different artists had generally more 'unique' songs.

I feel like I haven't bought that many new albums this year so I know there are tons that I have missed. But these immediately come to mind:
  • Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi (I've probably listened to this the most out of any.)
  • PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
  • Laura Marling - A Creature I Don't Know
  • Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes (I like the direction her music is going in.)
  • Feist - Metals
  • Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 (Fun!)
  • The Vaccines - What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? (Not completely consistent but some really good songs on it.)
  • REM - Collapse Into Now (Their best collection for ages, not up to the standard of early albums, but I feel like I must include it because it's their last. They were the first band I really got into.)
Apart from this thread, I need to surf the music blogs now and find out what great ones I missed. I usually pick up some good stuff at this time of year.

Your lists give me loads of ideas thanks ! I dunno why I completely forgot to listen to The Kills because I love them and I like Lykke Li too..So I'll probably come back to update my list, but so far I'll just mention "Take Care" by Drake. Took me quite a while to get into it, but it's really consistent.

Biggest let down of the year : Arctic Monkeys. They used to be my favourite band and after the jewel that was "Humbug" I had such high expectations. SIAS was just plain boring, I forced myself to listen to it several times, thinking I would probably change my mind, but I didn't.

The five best albuns of the year for me:
Toque Dela (Marcelo Camelo)
The Rip Tide (Beirut)
Bad as Me (Tom Waits)
Chico (Chico Buarque)
Acústico Sucateiro (Apanhador Só)

Best tribute album: Is This Indie (tribute to Is This It)
Single: Video Games | Blue Jeans (Lana Del Rey)

Honorable mention: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and El Camino (The Black Keys)
Good surprise: Blood Pressures (The Kills)
Wish I could include here but was disappointing: Angles (The Strokes) - not bad though...
