Beyond beautiful
i listened to his tracks a few weeks ago and noticed the production similarities with Bon Iver; they use the same blending style among other things. and then i looked him up further and realized he was his drummer very beautiful music gosh, i think i like his voice more than Justin's

anyhow i'm listening again to For Emma, Forever Ago and i just realized that this has always been my go-to album whenever i'm feeling despondent. it's like an automatic chill pill, immediately calms and soothes me.. his music has always affected me this way, straight to the gut, then permeates all over. thankgod for his music seriously.

did anyone see him perform with Kanye at last night's Coachella stream i've never favored his collabs with that person but i'm glad he showed up, even if it was only to add autotuned hollers to Kanye's set

Yeah, I agree. For Emma, Forever Ago is such a timeless record, I always listen to it when I'm studying, calming down after a night out, before I go to sleep, etc. It's probably the album I listen to the most along with another one of Vernon's records, DeYarmond Edison's Silent Signs

I don't get why people are so outraged about his collaborations with Kanye. I'm not a big fan of Kanye either but I actually like his latest record, which I would never even have listened to if it wasn't for Vernon's contributions. I was happy he went on stage with Kanye at Coachella. I heard he made a guest appearance at The National's set, too. Have yet to see that one, though.

Ahhh, it's so close. I agree that For Emma, Forever Ago is timeless. It's one of few albums that I could listen to over and over again.

I'll wait for the album to be released, but as for "Calgary", it doesn't disappoint!

When exactly did Bon Iver go from being an indie band to being massive superstars anyway? I'm currently trying to get tickets to their show in either Dublin or Brussels and it's such a hassle, even worse than when KOL tickets went on sale. I haven't been able to get through yet.
I managed to get tickets for Cologne but Germany's so boring, I'd rather travel to Belgium or Dublin (for whatever reason Dublin would be the cheapest journey for me, too) for Bon Iver :p

Anyone else from Europe planning to see them live?

They are pretty popular. They get millions of views on YouTube. I think it's because some of their songs such as Skinny Love were featured on popular shows like Grey's Anatomy.

But yeah, I listened to the leak! I really liked it. Don't condemn me, I'll buy it! Like most albums, I'll need to listen to it over and over again.

Article in the New York Times:

Quote:
Who, What and Where is Bon Iver?
Even by Kanye West standards, the Bowery Ballroom show last November was a spectacle. West had chosen the tiny club for a surprise concert, celebrating the release of “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” and it didn’t take long for the scrum outside to get ugly. Having tickets, which went on sale that day and sold out instantly, didn’t guarantee entry. The line stretched around the corner, and for most people, that’s as far as they got. Even those who made it inside — rappers, models, record-company executives, Diddy, Spike Lee, ordinary fans with the good fortune to have shown up very early — had to endure an hours-long wait.

Finally, well after midnight, the house lights dimmed, but the voice to emerge from the dark wasn’t Kanye’s. It belonged to Justin Vernon, frontman of Bon Iver, in a black T-shirt and slightly ratty beard. The fans had come for the megalomaniac rapper, but they’d have to deal with the sensitive loner first.

A moment of hesitation ran through the crowd as Vernon sang, his voice distorted by an effect that made him sound electric and huge. Kanye soon emerged, and then the more-famous guests each took their turns — Nicki Minaj, John Legend, Rick Ross. But time and again, the stage belonged to Vernon, whose eerie falsetto ran through song after song ... Read More

There's also a blog entry and another photo, from the New York Times here, and there will be a live stream of Bon Iver's new album, on that same blog, coming June 9th.

For those waiting for the official release of the new album ... it's out today!

My favorite, so far, is "Minnesota, WI". There's hundreds, thousands of more listens in this, though ...
