With bruised arms and broken rhythm, in a beat up old Buick... and dressed just like dynamite..."
Sienna - I'm so glad you liked it! I was so excited when I found that video...just randomly searching things on youtube. I spend a lot of time looking at Bruce videos . I'm new to bootlegs as well and I don't have any of his! But now I have to get my hands on that one you were talking about!

oh, and I love 70s Bruce the best too. I love his hat collection.

I actually think that they might be friends. There's quite a bit of footage together...and I think Bono did his intro to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Or maybe they are just "business friends"...I think Bono worships Bruce just like we all do

I am slighty biased...but I think Bruce just completely outshines anyone he collaborates with...he overpowers Bono. He has such an amazing stage presence! And everything sounds better with Bruce singing it.

And Sienna - love those pictures you posted! I think he is the most attractive human ever!

Oh yeah - sorry I am flooding the thread.
Sienna - do you have the album Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Live 1975-85? There is a version of "Growing Up" that he does live and he is telling stories about growing up in the middle of it - talking about how his dad wanted him to be a lawyer and his motorcycle accident, etc...and it is just so cute. It makes me smile! He says, "well, mom and dad, tonight you're just going to have to settle for rock and roll". Have you heard that live version before?

He is sooooo attractive. When I was in NY once, there was a local magazine that had a poll of the sexiest guys over 50 and he was on the cover. Duh! I don't know what it is? He isn't Jude Law. I think it is the integrity that does it.

And I know what you mean by overpowers. At university we can share music on our itunes and somebody (but I haven't figured out who) has him duetting with Melissa Etheridge. She comes on first and sounds gorgeous but then he comes on and you realise what you had been missing -what she was missing. I think it is the maleness of his voice. It is so testosterone rich that it just gets me weak kneed. But loads of guys like him so I am not sure what the appeal is for them. Probably something similar. I think they admire his masculinity.

Well I think it is professional. At first I thought it was personal but on the BTX forum where they really know their Bruce stuff, I remember reading some stuff where it said Bruce didn't really think that much of Bono. I just don't think it is in Bruce's interests to be rude and to be honest rudeness avoided is probably best in any situation. I think Bruce recognises and is grateful for the fandom but how good a friend can you be with someone who worships you! (I worship him but have no wish to be his friend... just his sex buddy!! ) And plus Bono's introduction for Bruce is one of the best speeches I have ever read (I don't know if there is any footage of it) so Bono is a friend worth having!

And that Stand By Me is beautiful! Even though it is more Bono than Bruce, he is really on form.

New Jersey rocker shows up at his own tribute show

Rock 'n' roll legend Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance at a tribute event held in his honour in New York last night (April 5).

Taking to the stage at Carnegie Hall, he performed three songs for the delighted crowd, two of which he performed acoustically.

Punk legend Patti Smith also appeared, performing her Springsteen-penned hit 'Because The Night' as well as actor Kevin Bacon, who sang a version of the Oscar-winning song 'Streets Of Philadelphia' with his band The Bacon Brothers.

A string of acts performed Springsteen covers throughout the evening, including Badly Drawn Boy, The Hold Steady and Steve Earle, all of whom played to benefit of the Music For Youth programme - an initiative supporting music education for underprivileged children in New York.

While on stage, the New Jersey rocker made light of the nostalgic nature of the show, saying "The good news is... I'm not dead yet."

The Boss also stopped to pay particular tribute to the wheelchair-bound blues/folk legend Odetta, who had earlier delivered what he described as "the best version of '57 Channels' I ever heard".
