Are U2 gigs good Erin? I like some of their albums (ok only Joshua Tree and maybe Achtung) but I am of the Bono is a **** brigade and their recent work is awful.

^ Sienna, I'm terribly biased. I've been a U2 fan since I was a kid.

BUT... I can say that they play a good deal of older tunes at their concerts. And you can tell that many people at their concerts are fans of their older music. Tto me the energy is amazing at their shows... and it's quite interesting to watch the Edge play - and quite frankly, it's great to hear a bunch of tunes that don't have to do exclusively with love... like, lovey-dovey love. Ya know? I get tired of that type of sappy music.

OK, I might see them next time they are in London then. The reason I wondered is because I was watching the hundred greatest gigs or something and they were in the top 10 with the gig they played in the Colorado mountains... red something. I don't remember but the rocks were red and the rain had just cleared and it looked pretty cool. I know what you mean about sappy music. It seems like every second kid decides that if he does crack and sings heart-wrenching songs, he will make the big time. A little humour never went astray!

Here's another arm-worthy set of shows by the inimitable Suede

The Drowners (their first TV performance) - the lyrics and the performance are a funny match - Brett says "slow down", but it's hard to imagine this any slower - if he was any slower he'd be asleep anyway, that's for sure Still, it's curiously good.

I'd give something pretty important to have been at Isle of Wight '70 instead of my parents (who slept through Dylan!).

You are perfect and I worship you completely

Tmw I am gonna make a Springsteen thread and we must chat. I think about him like 24/7 and I need to get some of that smoke out of me but I don't know how. I think I am the only 20 year old with this problem even though we were born in the 80s... My parents said that when he came on, I used to just stop dead in my pampers. And then I forgot about him and for the next 15 years I thought the only music that existed was Britney Spears. Needless to say I didn't listen to music much. Then puberty happened and I fell in love with him again.

Wow! THAT festival! They slept? Did they sleep through Hendrix, the Doors, Baez, Davis.... ? I command you to go and interview your parents about it and then post the transcript here.

WHY WHY wasn't I alive and wild in the 70s?

I can go on for hours, but:
-The doors in their earlier days. jim morrisons voice was apparently incredible live
-bob dylan
-led zeppelin...that wouldve been so much fun
-nirvana
-and the strokes in 2001 at the mercury lounge before they were big and groupies were minimal
