PJ Harvey Releasing 'Let England Shake' Album in February
After nearly a year of dropping cryptic hints, reclusive songstress PJ Harvey has finally revealed the first details for her ninth studio record.
As she revelead on her website on Tuesday morning, the album, 'Let England Shake,' will be released Feb. 14 on Island Records. It was recorded in an old church with longtime collaborators John Parish and former Bad Seeds member Mick Harvey (no relation), and produced by Flood, who counts U2 and Smashing Pumpkins among his clients. According to an interview with NME, Harvey recorded most of the album live in the studio.
There's still plenty of mystery surrounding exactly what was recorded, though. Harvey, who famously shies away from making overt statements, has suggested the record includes political content. In a BBC interview back in April, she said she wrote most of the songs using a series of autoharps.
Harvey's latest records have found her experimenting with plenty of different songwriting styles. On her seventh studio album, 'Uh Huh Her,' she played every instrument except the drums, and she recorded her eighth, 'White Chalk,' solely on a grand piano.
To support the record, Harvey has scheduled a series of European tour dates, many of which have already sold out. North American concerts have yet to be announced.
