The Strokes aiming for 'September' album release
Fab Moretti says band are like 'kids in a candy store' at sessions

The Strokes' Fab Moretti has said that the band are hoping to release their new album this September.

The New York band recently started sessions for their fourth album in their home city, with the drummer explaining that the group have made good progress, laying down the basic structure of the songs in the studio.

"We've been recording a bunch basic tracks are done," he told BBC Newsbeat. "Now we're just running around like kids in a candy shop."

Moretti added that he wanted the album out "hopefully around September".

Speaking of the album sessions, he said that they were "pretty much a free for all whoever has the best idea [contributes] coming back in and writing music was kind of like riding a bicycle".

The Strokes had previously revealed that they are working with producer Joe Chiccarelli on the album.

See the new issue of NME, out now, for an exclusive interview with frontman Julian Casablancas about the band's summer live plans.

^ Thanks darling. Been waiting for, forever, so I guess I can make it to September.

The Strokes' Nick Valensi set to feature on new Sia album

The Strokes' Nick Valensi has finally followed his bandmates with an extra-curricular music project.

While Julian Casablancas, Nikolai Fraiture and Albert Hammond Jr have all released solo records, and drummer Fab Moretti formed Little Joy, the guitarist had limited his efforts to photography rather than music while The Strokes took a break.

However, now Valensi has announced that he has contributed to the new album from Sia, entitled 'We Are Born'.

The new album from the vocalist, who appeared on Zero 7's 'Destiny', was produced by Greg Kurstin and will be released in the spring, followed by a gig at London's Roundhouse on May 27. - nme
