how can you even compare a pie in the face to terrorism? I can't believe it.

you can't agree with PETA's methods and purposes, but - sorry - comparing their action to terrorism is beyond my understanding.

and all my love to my fave models, but when I see them wearing furs I'd like to throw a pie in their face too! (and then to help them to remove the cream... of course! )

I am wholeheartedly with modelmama and CelineChic. PETA are utter twats. There should be some sort of government legislation reigning them in. I don't understand how they think physically attacking (because that is what it was) a hard working, talented woman furthers their cause.

I don't disagree with fur, as you may have guessed, but I do disagree with some of the very shady fur farms that exist. I think PETA would be better off campaigning for stricter fur production laws. Then they might come across as an reasonable society with a point. As it is, they look like a bunch of well-off, bored Westerners who seem to have nothing better to campain for. Rebel without a cause, indeed.

As for the Wintour bashing, of course there will be because she is a powerful woman and nobody likes powerful women. If you actually watch documentaries about her she comes across as intelligent and well educated.

PETA need to grow up. People would take their argument more seriously if they behaved like adults.

Thanks for posting that informative video Acid... about time a lot of people opened their eyes to the sad sad reality of those animals.....

Since when can Peta be compared to Al quaeda.... come on.... there's a MAJOR difference btwn throwing a PIE (and didn't she appreciate it last time.... .. ...she said it was GREAT FOR HER SKIN), and killing tons of people..... there's just no analogy to draw btwn both....

And please, Celinechic, it would be more than respectful not to draw conclusion as to what is going on in my head too fast... Please do not try to read btwn lines, I NEVER SAID I SUPPORTED the use of leather....!

That was really sickening...

There are probably equally horrible videos of what humans do to other humans though...

of course there are... ...but does that mean we should let the issue of animals being skinned for fur aside, to concentrate on human dignity/rights...... i think we need to concentrate on BOTH issues... !

No offence, but what's the use of such violent images? Do you think that there's anybody who doesn't know how the leather is taken off the animals? Is there anybody who may actually think that animals enjoy being killed and deprived of their fur? Before seing that video where did you imagine that fur comes from?
I think this is the main problem in PETA's strategy: the use of violence (both in images and in gestures). You can't fight violence with violence. Remember Mahatma Ghandi...

Oanodobre, I perfectly understand your point... But seriously, aside from shocking videos (and what else...), could you name me at least 5 EFFECTIVE strategies to get people's attention.....?!

Nowadays, the sad reality is people do not REALISE how important this issue is..! they don't have time to spend reading pamphlets or getting phone calls for donations..... !

And i am pretty sure a LOT of people are pretty ignorant as to what is going on behind the MAKING of their fur clothing.....

Sorry, Kimkhuu, but if the only solution to an issue is the use of violence, I don't think the issue is worth it. I think that PETA should rather concentrate on finding intelligent and non-violent ways of drawing the attention, instead of accepting the easiest ones: mockery and violence. If they can't find such solutions, maybe they are not the men and women fit for the cause.

Oanodrobe (by the way, I respect you so much for always bringing out punchy arguments but always remaining respectful! you go girl! ), I understand.... but they're not USING violence by showing such videos, they're only showing to people the already existing violence that people are themselves directly creating by supporting the use of fur for clothes. It's a sad reality some people ignore... showing such shocking images have HUGE chances of stopping one from buying fur in the future..

Kimkhuu, thank you for your kind words. But such an argument could also be used by people who direct, finance or write screenplays which abound in violence. "We are showing you and your children blood, killing and monstruosity so that you can see how bad war is. We are showing you how a woman is raped so that you never commit rape". Would you agree with such arguments in these situations? Do you think they are really effective?

I've always found pies quite sinister since my school put on a show of Bugsy Malone when I was ten, and the gangsters killed people with custard pies, and custard guns.
