^ here here

The unfortunate thing is that I really don't think they're trying to be ironic, it's very sad if this is the way fashion's going, especially such a (generally) well respected fashion magazine

do you think Vogue has been taken over by chavettes in staff then?
is it a real anti-style consprirancy?
should we form some kind of opposition and start some kind of guerrilla 'rezistence' ?

no chavettes taking over Vogue UK or else...

I'ts incredibly patronising of Vogue (to Colleen actually, although obviously I could care a lot more about that aspect of it, and to their readers) to put her on the cover. It's obviously meant as a very self aware piece of irony, but I think there's more to it than that. First they probably think that it's pioneering, to "think outside the box", by putting her on. She's not an obvious icon, she's more obviously not an icon, but that's the point. We got there first. When everyone else gets there, she'll be over. Secondly, all these Notting Hillbillies that run Uk Vogue aren't actually a kick in the bum away from chavs themselves. Although they think they're being ironic, they're secretly thinking "actually she doesn't look too bad". Third, Vogue Uk is pretty lowbrow. It's content is dominated by a need to keep it's key advertisers happy. It's key advertisers aren't Carpe Diem and Carol Christian Poell. They're Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Roberto Cavalli. Missoni etc etc. Next time yousee a picture of Colleen, see which bags she's carrying.... It all makes sense.

better than jade gooding... duh~~
Anyway some magazines actually changed their views over coleen's
style. Well has anyone seen Now or Heat recently?
The magazines were well harsh on her style just like here
but then they all praised her of her new figure (still look fat to me though-)
and dressing when she was enjoying her luxury x 100000 holidays on a beach.
whats going on???!!

And here she is:

Coleen McLoughlin photographed by Robert Wyatt for Vogue

Everyone can breathe a tiny sigh of relief though, because she's not on the cover after all...Cate Blanchett is.

From www.vogue.co.uk:
Quote:
COLEEN'S VOGUE MOMENT

COLEEN MCLOUGHLIN was nervous about her appearance in Vogue this month, but she clearly liked it. "She was a bit nervous about the clothes," the magazine's editor, Alexandra Shulman, told Richard & Judy on Friday. "She said she never would have thought about buying what we put her in. But I believe she has bought a couple of the pieces since the shoot." Coleen, who was dressed in McQueen, Gucci, Stella McCartney, YSL Rive Gauche and Louis Vuitton to be photographed by Robert Wyatt, admits in the interview that she is more likely to buy Missoni or Matthew Williamson than Chanel or Gucci. "She clearly knows about fashion and she is incredibly sweet and very pretty," went on Shulman. "The idea to feature her came from an initial idea that we wanted to do something on Footballers' Wives to tie in with the television series. It evolved into Coleen on her own because we were intrigued by the fact that she had become so famous but had never been photographed by anybody apart from the paparazzi – and who does look good in paparazzi photos?" I wrote this in the coleen thread but it may be of more use in this topic...

alexandra shulman had to write an entire article in the daily telegraph about why she put her in the magazine-the fact that she felt the need to issue a quasi-apology should maybe be telling her she made the wrong decision.I flicked through Vogue today, refusing to buy it, and actual article is quite funny-the writer's pathetic attempts to put Coleen in a positive light, even though it's quite clear she's not quite sure what to write about. I'm not saying this is Coleen's fault, but it's quite hard to write about someone who doesn't actually do anything. I also found it very funny when Coleen said something about having handbags and then finding it annoying when she sees knock-offs at the market the next day....go figure.

i heard on the radio that Alexandra Shulman said that she wanted to see Coleen on the catwalk, despite that she's only 5'3. She said something like even though she wasn't a typical model it would be good for the fashion industry ( I couldn't hear the whole thing, people were talking loud in our common room ). Even so, Coleen on the catwalk?
