^^^No, this is "FT": http://www.fashiontelevision.com/ from Canada.

FTV-- or "Fashion TV" is an entirely different conglomerate-- but same idea.

in the 90s FTV broadcasted in my country and Fashion File with Tim Blanks was a segment, I don´t know how that came to be but I loved it.

well because tim left for a gig at flare magazine and thus has been writing for style.com,of late. apparently,CBC was having some financial issues with fashion file which is why it was ultimately cancelled in 2009. i did not like the format FF evolved into after tim's departure.....there were no interviews, there was no in-depth analysis....mostly just highlights that emphasised the same ol,same ol...unlike tim's approach in that he covered a lot of the lesser knowns as well.

but yeah fashiontelevision was simply as such and definitely a separate entity....FTV is fashion tv and is more of a network than a mere programme.

but i agree with you phuel, jeanne,as mean as it sounds, was rather cheesy.....she certainly was no elsa klensch in her interviewing style.....a lot of designers did not like talking to her all that much because she was pretty brash. she was really the real-life equivalent of kim basinger's character kitty potter in 'pret-a-porter'.

That's right! I completely forgot about that mess Fashion File became after Tim had left. It was dreadful, very formulaic, department-store approach with an equally dreadful and forgettable host, who simply read stock cue cards. The show looked and had the depth of a Bay (Canadian department store) flyer.

I always loved the intros to Tim's stories where we get to see the people on the streets, behind the scenes and the whole people-watching and fly-on-the wall aspect that made each story its own mood and attitude. Someone, or some people need to bring back what Tim brought to FF. There's a whole other market that prefers fashion for it's depth, innovation, progression and politics and genuine rawness, and can do without the fluff and hype of celebrities, glitz and camp, or the mainstream blandness and accessibility of seasonal trends.

As for Jeanne being "brash"... If only. She was such a shameless a**-kisser and fed the egos of the desigenrs/celebrities to the point of being unbearable.

Both FT and Fashion File, these TV shows, both Canadian, bring me back to my early love of fashion - and culture generally - great shows, honest, candid and real. It's the end of an era indeed. Jeannie Becker has her faults, but she did some early Much Music work that is seminal, interviewing rock stars. Her "brash" style or "a**kissing style" whatever you wanna call it, may've come from that realm. Anyhow, I think she was a important figure in Fashion broadcasting.
