Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton expecting their second child

Actress Helena Bonham Carter is expecting her second child with film director Tim Burton, at the age of 41.

The pair met when the US filmmaker was directing Bonham Carter in Planet of the Apes and already have a three-year-old son, Billy.

The English actress recently told of how she wanted another baby, saying: "We've got to get on with it. To-do list: have sex. At right time."

Today her spokeswoman said: "Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton are very happy to be expecting their second child later this year."

Bonham Carter, the great granddaughter of former Prime Minister Herbert Asquith, had her first leading role at the age of 17 and shot to fame as a classic English rose in films like Howard's End and A Room With a View.

She went on to reinvent her image by playing a punk with steamy loves scenes with Brad Pitt in Fight Club and an ape in Planet of the Apes in 2001.

US filmmaker Burton, 48, the director of movies like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow, was with his fiancee, actress Lisa Marie, for ten years before he became involved with the English star.

Bonham Carter has always insisted that they began their affair after he broke up with his fiancee and that they were never romantically involved during the shooting of Planet of the Apes, in which Marie also starred.

Burton moved to the UK to be with his girlfriend but the couple have unusual living arrangements, sharing two houses with an adjoining corridor.

After having her first baby, the London-born actress said: "It's like an explosion of heart, love, everything - and it's extraordinary.

"It's changed everything. Everybody told me it would, and, of course, I didn't really listen, and there's no real way of describing it."

Burton, who was in the delivery room, recalled: "It was like my own private Alien movie. I'll tell you, it was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. It was amazing."

Bonham Carter became lovers with Kenneth Branagh in 1994, after they worked on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, when Branagh was still married to Emma Thompson.

But the relationship finished after five years.

Her bump proclaims a message that's as clear as the dots on her swimsuit - Helena Bonham Carter is pregnant again.
The 41-year-old English star and her film director partner Tim Burton are "very happy" about the addition to their family, said a spokesman.
Miss Bonham Carter, who appears in the latest Harry Potter movie, met Burton - her partner of six years - during the filming of Planet of the Apes, which he directed.
The couple's relationship is less then conventional. They live in separate homes in North London - connected by a secret adjoining corridor.

The actress, who is due to give birth at the end of the year, displayed her bump during a holiday in Italy with Burton and their three-year-old son, Billy. She paddled in the Mediterranean and went for gentle swims.
While his family splashed around, 48-year-old Burton - wearing a pair of goggles on his forehead and a pair of skull-embossed Hawaiian shorts - looked on proudly, taking photographs on his digital camera.
"Helena, Tim and Billy were having a whale of a time," said an onlooker.
"They were laughing, joking and generally fooling around for the entire afternoon - they really are a close family unit. They are also incredibly well-matched in their eccentricity.
"While Helena was wandering around with an assortment of hairclips and flowers in her tresses, Tim refused to remove his goggles - even when he was sunbathing.
"Helena made no effort to disguise her bump and was gently stroking it throughout the day.

"She looked keen to keep active though and went for frequent dips in the sea, doing gentle breaststroke laps."

Speaking of her desire for another baby earlier this year, the actress joked: "We've got to get on with it. Todo list: Have sex. At right time."
