Lindsay Lohan slams Oscar Winners
[Entertainment News] Washington,March 24: Teen star Lindsay Lohan has taken a dig at Oscar winners Charlize Theron, Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman referring to them as getting 'ugly' just to grab an Academy award. All three actresses, won Best Actress Oscars for abandoning glamour to play a serial-killing lesbian (Theron, MONSTER), a desperate single mother (Berry, MONSTER'S BALL) and a suicidal writer (Kidman, THE HOURS). "With movies now, it's very easy for a girl to dumb herself down or look ugly or be naked or be a lesbian or gain weight - those are the ones that win Oscars. The only one who didn't have to do that was Julia Roberts. And she never took her clothes off", Contactmusic.com quoted Lohan as saying.(ANI) http://www.newkerala.com/news-daily/...lnews&id=89852 Who ever said Charlize Theron was ugly in Monster? ![]() |

Well it's true, but why is she criticizing the actors? If you're gonna slam someone slam the academy for not taking more glamourous roles seriously. Did Charlize, Halle or Nicole know they were gonna win an Oscar? Obviously not, so direct your comments elsewhere Lindz...

Agree with Spike413.
If someone needs to take those matters in hand, it is certainly not going to be the actresses, but certainly the ones who chooses the winners and nominees. The actresses are really not the one to blame. Although I do understand and partly agree with what she undirectly is trying to express. |

I think its very professional for a actor or actress to lose weight or gain weight for a role.to me it meant that they really are serious about their jobs, for a much better show they are willing to just diet or gain weight. Look at Christian bale in The Machinist. SKINNY THIN. but did he get anything? Lindsay need to grow up more...

I think I remember reading that quote from Lindsay from somewhere.. some magazine interview and I didn't think anything of it.. I think she was just expressing a thought and she just didn't think out the way she was going to say it..
I think its mainly just the way the article posted above is written and the way it interprets Lindsay's quote.. I mean.. although I see where she's coming from and I agree it should have been said in a more tactful way.. I don't really see the big deal.. I didn't get the impression she was "slamming" Halle, Nicole, or Charlize |

Well I guess it's just too bad that the whole world can't be filled with glamorous parties, and beautiful people getting their picture taken. Perhaps lindsay forgot that some movies strive to be art, and not just mindless crap, that some roles require you to do something, not just memorize some lame one liners. It seems to me that the rolls she referenced required not dumbing down on the actresses part, but maybe, skill. Maybe a want to tell an interesting story, even if the character is not draped in juicy couture and uggs. Maybe an interest in something that could change a life, or help in some way, maybe bring an issue to the mainstream. I don't think any of the actresses chose the roles because they thought they would win an oscar. I know in the case of 'Monster' charlize chose it because it was such a interesting story.
I also think its funny that her whole argument is only based on the last few years, I guess maybe she doesn't realize that the Academy Awards have been around for quite awile. And that glam roles have won in the past. |

charlize was amazing in monster..it wasnt just ' uglyness' that that made the role and granted her the oscar!!
i like it when actresses take on non coventional controversial roles. if you ask me...stuff like mean girls is quite 'typical' and stereotypical roles for a young women in hollywood. its stuff like monster, boys dont cry etc. that get oscars because they are real performances.....with raw emotion. yeah maybe the charactors are ugly or fat but they are usually unusual storie worth 'telling' ( making movies)

But at least we know you don't even need to try to dumb yourself down or look ugly or be naked or gain weight to even attempt to win that Oscar, Lindsay.

I guess it's because Lindsay is already ugly but she's not getting no award.

^ well put lucky star
On another note, I'm incredibly surprised that she mentioned Halle Berry among the actresses who had to get "ugly" to win oscars - her character had a great deal of emotional depth in Monster's Ball, but wasn't physically unattractive at all Also, both Kidman and Theron were playing individuals who actually lived - I don't think they were making themselves "ugly" so much as conforming to the physical appearance of the actual character. Although I'd claim that Nicole Kidman was not ugly in the Hours either (Woolf certainly wasn't), she just made her nose seem larger to look more like Virginia Woolf. ![]()

I was really impressed with Charlize in Monster, but I can see what she's getting at with Nicole Kidman's performance in The Hours.

Wow Lindsay that was probably one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. The point of being an actor is to explore different facets of human nature, whether they're beautiful or ugly, and to step outside the self. I commend an actress such as Charlize Theron willing to undergo that transformation to portray a character that was so different than her glamorous self.
