A Swedish man from Härjedalen has accused Marc Jacobs of plagiarising his father's traditional scarf, which was created in the village of Linsell in the 1950s. Göran Olofsson, of Arvika in western Sweden, believes he owns the rights to the scarf which was copied by the American designer.

"I was very surprised when I saw the new scarf. It looks like a clear case of plagiarism," Says the son of Göran Olofsson who created the scarf

Up until his death in 1982, Olofsson ran a petrol station in Linsell, in which sold his own homemade souvenirs. It is believed that at some point, copies of the scarf may have ended up in the US. Marc Jacobs is yet to comment

...I wonder what this means for Mr. Jacobs. I often hear people talking about him copying designs. This is a rather extreme, inarguable case; it's hard to say "inspiration" in his defense.

Those scarves are so identical. Marc could have change some of the images a little bit, or better yet, just change the whole art of the scarf

I'm not surprised. In my opinion, Marc Jacobs is not a fashion designer, but a very talented stylist. I don't mean that being a stylist is inferior to being a designer, but a stylist references fashion and a designer creates it. To me, he has always plagiarized looks, but this is an extreme example.
