On the other hand, I do agree that many of these super thin/young girls should not be modeling. It's not good for them at all.
Lots of great points here, I just think Karlie IS ultra thin. I can't see her as a good example of a healthy girl. To have model measurements at 6'1" tall is pretty tough. Tanya is about the same height too. I see them and just think, yikes! It's tough enough for the barely 5'9" girls, let along the really tall ones.

I like the Pink campaign with Behati, Rachel and Heather Marks. It's like a fantasy college of clean-cut healthy girls. Seems like smart marketing.

Smart, independent women aren't being told anything. Naive, self conscious women suffering from low self esteem are the only ones sucked into believing that this is the "ideal" body type.
People think they're exempt - that is really what makes it all so genius, isn't it.

I disagree, there are so many independent smart women who have jobs, etc, etc. That suffer from this "ideal" body type they are the ones who buy designer clothing and try and fit into the sample sizes and think that having the "ideal" body size is the best size of all. People need to understand that smart independent women can also have terrible personal lives and horrible personal views of theirselves and their bodies. Just because you may have the best Professional life doesnt mean you cant have the WORST personal life.

IMO, smart has very little to do with it. Independence, however, could be a factor. Just like children of the same parents behave differently listening to the same advise/rules, people will differ in their comprehension and view of press/media.

These two axioms are basically true in our society:

1) If you study and concentrate, you will do well in school and have a great career (unless you're not at all gifted);

2) If you're very careful with what you eat and you exercise, you will be beautiful (unless you're not of an unusual body type).

People who overdo one thing, may be more prone to overdo the other as well.

Another thing; A lot of the people with eating disorders I know, have unusually round faces for their weight. I think this may play a role - the fact that some people who are quite determined to be as successful with appearance as with other things, and are unable to get a face/other feature that measures up to their expectations. Some people will simply not get narrow faces until they are virtually skeletons.

^^I agree, Many people who have eating disorders are overacheivers. They are prone to do the same with their bodies when they look to actress or models or their opinion of what the "ideal" body is.

How many times in my previous posts did I state what I meant by "smart"? There's really no point in anyone stating their opinion here because it all gets butchered and overlooked.

But you failed to understand what I meant and you replied to my post completely misunderstanding what I said.

Katherine - I think everyone is well aware that people are sharing their own opinions too, I mean it's a forum after all.

I disgagree, when i looked at your comments never have u mentioned what a "smart" was to you, Women can defiitely be smart but they also can be easily infuenced my the media or fashion no matter how smart they are you dont have a teenager to be easily influenced by the stigma of the "ideal" body type, you can be middle class or multi-million dollar woman who has the smarts and drive to back it up.

I have something interesting for you guys! It's ridiculous and this girl's mum is totally ruining her daughter's life. But you can see how media and fashion also influence her. Oh Sasha, haven't you seen what happened to Jonbenet Ramsey?

Quote:
Last year, it was reported that Sasha Bennington is so obsessed with UK "model"/celebrity Jordan (real name: Katie Price) that she bleaches her hair, sports extensions, plucks her eyebrows, has acrylic nails, gets spray tans and wears Jordan-esque makeup. Also? Sasha is 11 years old.

"People can say what they want. I know there is nothing bad about what I'm doing. I'm just helping my daughter make something of her life. Any good mum would do the same," says Sasha's mother.

Ask Sasha how she sees herself and she replies: 'Blonde, pretty, dumb - I don't need brains.' Her mum laughs her head off at this, proud that the child is so like her. - bbc.

The problem is that eating disorders (and sexism) do not work that way.

Thanks for the vid Katherine, I couldnt agree more, it's so sad that this young girl does this and worse her mother supports it, instead of being a mother

The father is like flabbergasted, he is like wondering why did I marry this woman. But it does seem like the mother wanted to model in her younger years and things didn't work out so she's using the daughter as an outlet. It's really, REALLY sad when you're eleven years old and watching your weight/working out. edit: please see rules for this thread in post #1 She'd lose whatever baby fat she has now anyway, jeez she doesn't need to work out!

What makes the video more sad is she gets bullied and says she can't understand why nobody likes her. Poor girl. I wish her mother can realise she needs to act her age. None of the students in her school can relate to her which makes me believe that's why she gets bullied. You want to be friends with someone who has common interests as you, right?

^[b]edit: please see rules for this thread in post #1[/B Her mother condoning the fact that she should "be pretty, so she can make friends" is idiotic and then they realize why her friends and kids in the schol bully her, its like an on going cycle of stupid and easy influence on the brain.
