Jourdan isn't fully grown yet, though.

She turns 18 in about a month.

Don't girls typically end puberty 3 years after their period begins? I would expect Jourdan to be done growing by now, but I guess it's possible she hasn't...

That family were on Trisha (A British talk show) and I think the mum had been a wannabe model in her late teens/early twenties. I did feel kind of sorry for the dad, although he is such a pushover! The mother, though, absolutely disgusted me. The fat jibes that were "jokes", encouraging her to exercise to burn calories and loose weight (don't get me wrong, parents should encourage exercise, but not to cause weight loss when their child is at a healthy weight) and so on - I don't understand why any mother would want to do this to their child (the mum blatently has issues herself, projecting them onto her daughter etc etc). There is a huge risk of an ED forming in that child (if it hasn't been already), it broke my heart to here her say "I say I'm fat and people say I'm a twig. But I'm not, I'm fat" and how she only based her self worth on other opinions of her apperance (believing people would only be friends with her/like her more if she was attractive/thin is definately a common trait among ED sufferers)

And EDs can be coping mechanisms that come into being in complicated and abstract steps that require a potent and active brain and psyche. There you have your smarts.
I totally agree

The media again portrays a lot of misconception about EDs, for anyone truly interested in understanding Eating Disorders, I highly rec'd Wasted: A memoir of aneroxia and bullimia by Marya Hornbacher. After reading this book, everyone will know the truth behind ED, thus look at ED differently and able to relate to the person better.

I've said this too many times . I think that maybe when some people leave college and start to get a little heavy they think it's finally that puberty weight arriving? No. You're just putting on pounds! All of this "she's just 18, she's just 19 she's not fully grown yet". There are exceptions, of course, but I wish people would stop using that as a general reason for why legally adult women who should be in their prime child bearing years still have 14 year old bods. (This isn't directed at Jourdan necessarily just an overall comment.)

Honestly, this still doesn't make sense to me. It's as if you're arguing that a "healthy mindset" is some kind of wonder vaccine that leaves women immune to the media's negative influence. How many times have I read of girls or women who actually think they look pretty good but pretend they have body issues to fit in with their friends so that they don't seem arrogant? It takes enormous willpower, I think, in such a heavily media saturated culture to work against (the inevitable) subconscious absorption of the "perfection" message. Possessing knowledge is only half the battle.

I'm a smart girl who knows that those Starbucks frappuccinos are a heart attack in every cup but that doesn't stop me from buying a mocha frap every summer. Does this mean I'm stupid ie have an "unhealthy mindset" ?

There's plenty of smart people out there who smoke, drink, and do other not-so-healthy things, I might add.

P.S. Regarding puberty - some people don't really finalize this stage until their early 20s. Your body weight can redistribute, you can grow a few inches taller.

Definitely agree, thanks for the input! I find it hard to believe that all of these grown women haven't finished puberty yet- sure, if they were actually 13 or 14 years old that would be a very different story!

Very true. There are also a lot of not-so-smart people who don't do any of that. Being smart doesn't mean being a healthy person.

Puberty ends 2 years after a girl's first period. Many girls get another growth spurt between 18 and 22 as well.

I thought that was real when I had first seen it years ago, but you can do that easily with the liquify tool in photoshop . Its very sad that someone would do such a thing.

I found this very disturbing/sad:

Odd, I was just watching it?!?!
I think it is becasue it is a CBS video, so they don't allow their videos to be posted anywhere other than youtube. It was the CBS interview with Isabelle Caro. I guess if you want to see it go to YouTube and type: Anorexia's Living Face (CBS News).

Key words being "finalized" and not "just beginning" which is how that excuse is often used here in my experience .

lovefrommilan, yes, glad to have someone agree with me, at least.

Jodie Kidd has been ditched by her model agency after she gained too much weight.
The model reportedly lost several contracts after piling on the pounds.
