this is very odd. considering obesity affects 5x as many as anoreixa/bulimia, you would think that healthy role models to stop peopel from gourging would be an issue. if models were affecting hte average woman so much--- 30 percent wouldn't be OBESE. i think that skinny models are not nearly as big for a problem as diabetes, heart disease, and all the other side effects of overeating.
according to world health org's standards, the average model, with a bmi of 16.5, sufffers form mild to moderate thinness. on top of that, fo rtheir age, they are only mildly underweight--if at all. teh average women is not mildly overweight. |

Not at all. 18.5-17.5 would be mildly underweight, if there were ever such a category.
Anything below 17.5 is the weight Anorectics are diagnosed. |

I think that "sizes" are the wrong way to look at weight debate.
For example, yesterday I went prom dress shopping with one of my closest firends, who is going to prom with the guy of her dreams. She is usally a size 8 (she looks fine, cause she's also about 5'8.5/5'9) but all the dresses she tried on in 8 were too small around her torso, so we had to start going for 12s. I explained how dresses are ALWAYS made to suit an hourglass frame (as are all articles of clothing) and she is more of an apple shape, larger at the top. Only 10% of the population can REALLY be qualified as having an hourglass figure. So a girl can be healthy and look fine, but she wears a larger size or a smaller size thanks to her build. Sizes can be very misleading. ![]()

^yeah, and sizes vart throughout different companies, etc....
it would be easier if sizes were just measurements, like in inches or whatever... and then there would be no confusion about vanity sizing

^^ Yeah, I can wear tops in regular sizes but there is no way that I can fit in a straight size on the bottom. I also hate plus-size tops. I have to wear them if they are long-sleeved (damn arms!) but the bust is sooooooo huge on me! They're cut for women with huge breasts and my upper body is left swimming in fabric. All clothing is cut for an hourglass shape and that's not the reality!

and I have an opposite feeling, a lot of clothes are either too loose everywhere or too tight in the upper part

and fashion is a business. these designers should be more concerned about making the clothes look good on any form, becuase that is a true show of the talent of the designer (i think john galliano does this well when he wants to, but he doesnt do it often)

^^ It sucks, no? It also makes it extremely confusing when it comes to sizes. Sometimes I grab three different sizes just to see which will fit best. Ah, if only we all had model proportions so our clothes would fit perfectly!

I do have "model" proportions I suppose , around 33-23-34.5 (just about two inches too short, sadly, to reach that perfect 5'10), and in all honesty things fit perfectly on top and bottom, but I have such small boobs- I mean AA. I think honestly, with how thin these models are, tops have to be too small for the majority of them too (other than like the Gisele ones, who probably have more trouble fitting in tops that pulling up pants).
