Me neither. But oh well, I'm doing social experience from school with handicapped children and there are a lot of girls who can't eat by theirselves and just very few because it takes so long, they have a similar body type.

This girl is just sad and if she is naturally that way it would still be sad because someone should notice her problems, you can't hide that if you look like her even with big shirts.

german health ministry announced today that they are setting guidelines for modeling. A minimum age of 16 and size 36 (which is a 10 in england and a 6 in the us, i believe) will be required from now on.

Because the German fashion scene is so relevant.

To me all this guideline business seems more like a way of displaying oneself in a positive light than attempting to do something about an issue one cares about.

well, it's not irrelevant.
but that's not the point. it's setting guidelines and pressuring others to do so.

Whom? The big scenes, the French and Italian and American?
I don't know why they should feel pressure ..

Fashion just isn't that much of an issue for most of Germany and many people display an atittude of bold down-to-earth-ness that borders on arrogance (this is hard to explain). Of course psychological problems like EDs exist plenty here, too, but I don't think that can be linked to the fashion industry that much and thus a campaign like that nurtures misconceptions about EDs like "girl sees skinny model -> girl thinks because this is in a magazine it is the ideal, because it might supposedly be consideres the ideal I must adopt it -> girl limits her diet to radishes and ends up in the hospital" when really education about the many disturbing and complex facets of such mental illnesses is needed (as this thread often shows, too) instead of some showy "oh look at us being all caring" dance. That's just my opinion though.

(I'm German by the way)

Exactly. Once someone sets the precedent, it becomes harder for others to say it won't work and etc.

they should feel the pressure because it will be government regulated. all the other guidelines that were set in the past were industry based, i believe. if the italian and french governments decide to do the same (and they are all in the eu so it's not impossible), the industry will have no more saying in that

A six? Two, I understand. Four, I understand. But a six is a size too big, I'd say.

^ Exactly. I understand wanting the models healthy for their height and above a size zero or two. But a six?... Sasha is pretty short for a model. Can you imagine her as size six?

^I could be wrong, but the models who do shows in Germany tend to be lesser known, yes? Height is probably a more strict requirement in that case. They're probably trying to make the standard sample size, which they use for runway shows, 6 rather than whatever it is right now.
