^ it's obvious she lost weight by looking at those pictures in post #2397 I hate to say this but her facial structure looks better with losing weight but she's not glowing like she was when she had a little bit of weight...

Regarding model Heather Marks - is she not in demand because she refuses to loose weight? Whats the deal with Heather nowadays? She used to be in the pages of Vogue and she walked Balenciaga, Chloe etc etc - now shes in the pages of Flare magazine (no offence) and she hardly walks in any shows...

ps. in her thread, her poloroids only show her face and shoulders - which is unusual because normally poloroids show the models bodies as well - is it because shes 'too big' for the catwalks?

I think Heather has 'graduated' from high fashion in a sense. Yes, some of it may be because of her body...but much of it may be her own choice since she's likely better off now with a less hectic schedule and making way more money from her cosmetic contracts and catalogue work.

Heather didn't do many shows last year because of her personal life, so Im guessing she preferred doing less shows and making money from her contracts like static said.

Fashion industry launches inquiry into the use of size zero models

An inquiry into size zero models has been announced.
A line-up of some of the biggest movers and shakers in the fashion world, from model management to designers and supermodels, are taking part in the Model Health Inquiry.
It is set to look into the health of catwalk models at London Fashion Week (LFW) - scene of hot debate over super skinny or size zero models.
Former Competition Commission deputy chairman Baroness Kingsmill heads the three-month inquiry.
It is backed by the British Fashion Council, the London Development Agency (LDA), Marks & Spencer and The Work Foundation.
Sarah Doukas, founder of Storm Model Management, British model Erin O'Connor and designers Betty Jackson and Giles Deacon are also on the inquiry panel.
Charlotte Clark, co-director of INCA Productions, Paula Reed, style director of Grazia magazine, Professor Wendy Dagworthy, head of the School of Fashion and Textiles at the Royal College of Art, and consultant psychiatrist Dr Adrienne Key are also on the panel.
Any concerns about health and size issues among LFW catwalk models will come under the spotlight.
The casting and selection process of models for work at London Fashion Week will also be studied.
Inquiry members will look at the effectiveness of the approaches taken by other fashion capitals, particularly New York, Paris, Milan and Madrid.
Guidelines for British employers of catwalk models will be drawn up to help them tackle any "any material size-related health concerns", an inquiry spokesman said.
Measures to manage the health of LFW models and how they should be implemented, enforced and effectively assessed will also be drawn up.
Lady Kingsmill said the time is right for this inquiry because, internationally, fashion is "one of the most important" sectors of the creative industries that makes Britain economically competitive.
It supports much of the retail, tourism and design industries while being a major leisure activity for women.
Lady Kingsmill said: "It is important, therefore, that we take the lead in debating the issues surrounding size and health on the catwalk, particularly at London Fashion Week which is a showcase for the industry and for London.
"I have brought together an advisory panel of leaders in the industry who will help me to examine the most important health and safety issues and in particular those related to size.
"We look forward to receiving contributions from all sides in this debate."
Information-gathering and issue analysis takes place from May to June.
The interim report is to be ready by early July, with the final report being published in September.
The panel will review material, including a range of existing information on health and size issues, and have meetings with relevant experts.
The public can also make confidential submissions.
Written submissions can be made via www.modelhealthinquiry.com.
LDA chair Mary Reilly said: "London Fashion Week is part of a creative industry which makes a huge contribution to London's economy. We want that to continue.
"And so we look forward to seeing the taskforce's recommendations to deal with concerns about unhealthily thin models on the catwalk."
Lady Kingsmill has a history of market-led investigations.
She has been involved in investigations into milk supply, underwriting, cars and mergers, including those proposed between Lloyds TSB and Abbey National, and P&O Princess and Royal Caribbean.
In 2001, she headed an independent review of women's pay and employment, reporting to the Trade and Industry Secretary. In 2003, she headed the task force on Human Capital Management - Accounting for People.

I heard they will be looking at models' diets, fitness regime etc, plus how designers choose their models and why.
It's good that there's a wide range of people on the panel, including models and designers to get their views.

I think that static makes a good point. Alot of the models that came out during the time that Heather did are branching out into more commercial modelling. (Caroline Winberg, Julia Stegner, etc.) Commercial wise, Heather has had an amazing year, with the Victoria's Secret show and her Revlon contract, not to mention the fact that she was in quite a few catalogs, whoch pay alot of money. She still does do high fashion though. She's had editorials in Vogue Nippon and Harper's Bazaar Korea and is also in the June issue of Vogue Espana. She was also on Vogue Espana's May cover and had an editorial in there as well. (Just a side note, Flare is a Canadian magazine and they feature alot of Canadian models: Daria, Tasha Tilberg and others have had recent editorials in it)

I find it quite funny that models like Heather and Katarina are considered curvier than most. If you were to compare them to the average woman, you would see how tiny they are. Thin but healthy; which I think is something that you don't seem to see alot in the industry. Heather was a bit thinner when she started doing runway, but keep in mind that her first season was about 4 years ago, and she's about to turn 19 this year. Your body does alot of changes in that time. Like I said, she's still very thin, but it looks natural.

In regards to her polaroids, if you go to the Women Management site, which is Heather's agency, you'll see that the polaroids are like that for most of the models. They usualy just take pictures of the upper half, concentrating on the face.

This is completely off tangent, but it really sickens me when news organizations use the most extreme images of one or two girls to become "poster children" in a sense for the debate. Almost every broadcast station in the states used stock runway footage of Snejana when the Madrid debate began, then Gotsyi had her turn as the image of unhealth. Anna I believe it is, looks incredibly gaunt and stick-like in that picture, and yes its a shame. However, I just feel such a pain for some of these girls when their images become the talking points and lingering message, rather than a well written, well researched article. I know that images are quite potent, especially in our connected, and fast-paced culture, but it just seems to be such a cheap and easy way to garner attention, instead of really focusing on the debate. Yes the "article" is about research into the health of models, but its really only reporting on what investigation will occur in order to analyze London Fashion Week...I fail to see how the promotion and representation of such a extreme strengthens the article beyond trivial sensationalism.

Just my little opinion on something that has bothered me frequently in many of these "articles."

I am a pretty big Heather fan (though not very active in her thread), but I don't think this is quite the same thing. While Julia's runway work has lessened, when she does work, she still does the top shows (Chanel, Valentino, Kors). Because she has remained thin, top designers will continue to use her. The same goes for models such as Daria Werbowy and Hana S., who show up on the runway from time to time.

Heather, on the other hand, still does a lot of shows but they are of lesser prestige. If it were really a case of her choosing NOT to have as hectic a schedule, why would she bother walking shows like Karen Walker, Costello? She would be walking Chanel, Dior, Gucci, etc. It's not as if the small shows pay more or give her more publicity. I think it is more that the designers simply don't wish to use her anymore because of her size.

Look at Caroline Trentini. She, too, has slowed down, and walked almost the same amount as Heather this season (CT = 29, HM = 24), yet Caroline's shows were all top-tier. And since Heather and Caroline look similar, I don't think it's a case of Heather's look being unpopular with designers, since Caroline's look is still popular. I really think it's just a matter of designers not wishing to use her anymore because of her size.

Nonetheless, I am glad that Heather has moved on from high fashion. I would rather see a happy, healthy Heather on the pages of Flare rather than a gaunt, sickly Heather on the Prada runway.
