Some, I noticed in numerous articles, feel that if Olga isn't walking the catwalk a size 10 women will. Why does it need to be about extremes? Personally, Olga Sherer on the runway distracts me from the clothes...all I see is hipbones and a visible ribcage. I advocate models who, while being thinner than the average women, nonetheless do not resemble sick girls.
I agree with everything you said, but specifically this. Aren't models hired to be models because their bodies are pleasing to look at in clothes (among other things)? I don't find extreme skin and bones to be aesthetically pleasing, natural or not. I don't understand people who do. Simple as that. They have a right to find that beautiful, but I won't ever understand it.

I know that sounds discriminating, but isn't that what the fashion world is? They discriminate against size 12, 14, etc. women because their bodies have been deemed by society not the prefered look. That is how I feel about models who are size quadrupal 0. Yes, everybody is beautiful in their own way. But when we are forced to sit down and think "What type of body do we really find the most pleasing in clothing?".. most of the young and extremely skinny models is not what I think.

I'd rather see a slim (since let's face it, that won't change), but still healthy looking girl on the runway. Not saying skin and bones can't be healthy or natural (I recognize it can be), but it doesn't neccesarily look that way to an outsider.

However, there will always be the people who say "I consider Vlada (just an example) to be slim, but healthy looking. Since it's all subjective. So it's a no win situation if you think about it..

It came across as odd to me as well, when people keep saying cigs are suppressants. Then, not long ago on CNN news they were talking about studies that have been made that smoking actually cause a person to eat more. But then, scientests and doctors give conflicting arguements where certain foods do or don't cause cancer....

In fact, it's downright disgusting.

All models are clearly thin. If they weren't, they wouldn't be models. But there is a difference between thin and downright emaciated. Generally people who naturally emaciated have health issues, such as Graves disease or some sort of problem absorbing nutrients.

What I find particularly disturbing is that many of the models who appear to suffer from some sort of "issue" or admit to it, like Anouck Lepere, are grown women. It must be so odd for them to be competing against girls who can just naturally maintain a certain figure before their bodies really change.
Thank you. Frankly, i don't give a **** if Olga is or isn't starving herself. But I don't want to see it. Its the image that matters, not what is behind it. And while there seems to be a huge arguement in this post about whether or not models are "natural" or "unnatural" the real issue seems to be the fact that designers and magazines are putting girls out there that are so skinny that we even have to question it.

I don't thing it's fair to decide what "the real issue" is. It's not like everyone believes they should be banned for the image they portray, some believe they should be banned out of concern for their health. In that case whether they're naturally or unnaturally super skinny does MATTER to those people and it's relevant.

You've said what I think better than I could. It's the message that designers are sending when they use these models that truly counts, not whether their bodies are natural or not.

Licks, just give it up.This is not the right forum to say too many girls are dangerously skinny. Unless you just worship the industry and girls, and say everyone looks fine, you will get slammed for saying otherwise. And don't take it personally.

indeed this isn't the right forum to generalized and defame. why is it so hard to accept that there are some who are naturally the way they are? and i mean some. it's just easy to generalize isn't it? *edited: in relation to other deleted posts*

actually showrooms do cater to, the petite ,average size and plus sizes as well. it's only the runway do they use smaller slender models to fit the sample dresses. everything on the girls are samples.

I donīt think that all models are too thin. There are so many models which bodies I adore.I also didnīt say that skinny models have eating disorders, because I simply dont know it.I just donīt find the body of Olga Sherer attractive, thatīs my simple opinion.I like some models with skinny, lanky legs, but Olgaīs arms scare me.

I think Olga is actually an extravagante and good-looking girl, but sheīs so terrible skinny.Gorgeous bonestructure...she could be a really pretty model if she wouldnīt be that thin.

I think she has actually really nice cheekbones, but they would also look great,if she had more meat on her.Vlada for example is very thin too,but she hasnīt striking cheekbones.I am pretty sure, you would still see them,if Olga would gain weight. Now her face looks harsh, but with more weight,it would look gorgeous.
