^I am not a big fan of Vlada, but I do have to say that she has noticably gained weight since the beginning of her career and looks healthier than she did before.

Also, I don't think anyone here has outright said that these "anorexic model-bodies" are perfect and the way that everyone should look. However, these women are undeniably beautiful, and most of them are thin just because that is HOW THEY ARE...they aren't anorexic or sick, they are just built differently than most of everyone else.

You are telling me that the body of Hana Soukupova is "how she is" - if she ate normally?
I have a very hard time believing that. And second, they did not say "those anorexic model bodies". But they said "Hanas/Vladas" bodies are "perfect". This is where I'm questioning the perception of beauty these days.

^YOU said anorexic model bodies, BonjourT.

And yes, I think that is truly Hana's body. If you look at pictures of her when she was young, she was very thin then too. Plus uh, I work at an agency, I know a NUMBER of models, and when we go out to eat...they eat just as much as I do if not MORE.

I still dislike the natural v. unnatural discussion, because it goes around in circles and misses a key discussion point. Models portray clothes, and some can even go as far as to say that they portray an image, an ideal. Therefore, does it truly matter whether the models are truly this way....or is the image they portray the important factor?

Can we please move on the Vlada talk and actually have a discussion ?

iximisspiggyixi, i agree.

....the thing is, the models you see that sashay the runways of ny, milan, paris and london are already just as thin then when they first walked in to an agency as they are now not the other way around. for that, they are rarity, these creatures with long limbs than your average girl/woman.

these models are what you call lanky. there are lanky people in the world, but that doesnt mean they are the way they are because they have ED or doing the 'other stuff' that we are forbidden to discuss here

Hana is tall and lanky in person. and there are people that eat alot and burn it off like that. we call that 'genetically blessed'.

a perfect example is Eric Dane who plays Dr. McSteamy on Grey's Anatomy. He can eat like a pig and loses weight. So to balance his weight loss he lifts weights to bulk or else he will look super thin. I believe Brad Pitt is the same way.

Style, Elle, FirstView, Scanned by specialneeds

Hana Soukupova back then was not even comparable to Vlada, Natasha, Kim, Olga, and Co. Like seriously hands down no competition. If you search for the pictures, you will see what I mean. I'm not going to post them all here because this isn't some thinspo site, but look for them and you will see.

Natural or not? I can't say. She is my favorite model so obviously I want to say "natural" but sometimes I think we forget natural or not, it's not the kind of image the industry should be sending out to the world.

Honestly, I think the most important thing is that she has gained weight.

Oh I agree completely. I just meant to say that you always hear people saying "it's natural" or "it's obviously not natural" when really that's not the point. If a girl looks too skinny on the runway it doesn't matter how much she stuffs her face after she walks off.

I have to agree with many of the statements here.

Many models are (and I mean this in a kind way) just genetic freaks of nature. They are tall people and with tiny builds. A few models I know have told me that they feel cursed rather than blessed by their metabolism - no matter how much they eat, they never put on weight and they really do try. They are tall, so they burn more calories. I'm sure even outside of the modeling world, we all have known people like that.

Which is not to say 100% of them are healthy. I have worked with a few models who have had problems. Just like in the real world. They come to fittings and well, sadly, you just know. Sometimes, if you've worked with them a lot, they tell you.

As far as the coathanger argument - I have heard designers joke that using one of those drycleaner racks (with the conveyer belts) might be less hassle than using real models!
