I'm not saying one is better than the other (though obviously I have a preference) but it doesn't really make sense to say they're similar
Of course you are right.

What i wanted to say is, there are models, that are like sticks and nothing else:

and others that are very thin too but have a beautiful womanly body:

I don't know where the claim that gay guys like skinny girls comes from, but it's a very rude/general statement.
The implication is that the gay guys (who dominate fashion) like girls who look like slim young males.

That impression could be wrong. That's what it looks like. The ultra-thin aesthetic might be taken to be an artistic choice, but it looks awful. and cruel.

We are seeing very slim young women who are pressured to lose more weight and permanently compromise their health for financial reasons. Kim Noorda looked better before. But isn't she having a great HC season...

I find it interesting that the straight men on tfs frequent threads of models like Valentina and Doutzen, who do have, dare I say curves, women on the other hand find these two models bland and boring although I think it's more of "pretty school girl syndrome" where girls are jealous of the pretty girl (I'm guilty of this too). Whereas straight women seem to like girls here seem to like Eugenia and Daria, and other models who are un-offensively beautiful. Like you like looking at them but you wouldn't neccessarily want to have their face (I hope this makes sense). Gay women here seem to like very tall and thin models who have more masculine faces like Masha, Freja and Olga.

Obviously these are sweeping generalisations, it's also worth considering that most people on tfs are women and there are much fewer men. Although this is just what I have observed.

Girls like Snejana, Vlada and Natasha have their select (not to mention loyal) fans because they have very model-esque faces, but even if you like their faces and their modelling somewhere you are envious of their tiny bodies, because if you get their appeal you get high fashion and high fashion today is very elitist. When I say that I don't mean in a money way, I mean in an "untouchable" way. Like today fashion really is only for fashion people (and fashion people are skinny people), like we're not really accepting of beauties like Jessica Alba, Meghan Fox and Jessica Biel, they're somehow secondary. So you don't want to see girls like that in high fashion.

So comments like "she looks like a playboy bunny" and "too much boob, not high fashion at all" is exactly what designers, magazines and editors have lead us to believe that if you aren't tiny, with no boobs, you're not meant for Prada or Gucci, which is why when we see designs on the red carpet on shorter women with curves like Eva Longoria we think they're cheap. Basically a femine figure belongs to a women who has let herself go, or become grotesque with no self control. A traditional/common woman's figue doesn't belong to Behati or Miranda it belongs to Monica Belluci who's boobs that actually sag a little and Marlyin Monroe who was like a size 12. So Gay men or straight girls on tfs is irrelavant, we here on tfs are really so warped that if a new girl isn't tiny, like Karlie or Ali we think she's not deserving of any success, or that she should stick to "commericial" modelling or worse change profession to acting. It's really no wonder people on other forums think we're all thinspiration addicts because we're always saying Doutzen and Gisele are "curvy" and on the large size. We're so mad we think Sasha and Raquel could lose a few.

Then we say girls like Miranda have the perfect figure but secretly you'd still chose Snejana's body for modelling. Not to mention if Miranda got a Fendi campaign, we'd be outrages and say how cheap Fendi is and "has Karl lost his mind using that skank".

Just my opinions but there's a lot of polotics in fashion now and unless we value a certain aesthetic we're not accepted. For example if you join tfs you have to get models like Gemma, Daria and Eugenia, God forbid you should think Hilary Duff is "beautiful".

it isn't that they prefer skinny per se, as much as more boysish/straight/boyish figures when compared to straight men. however, on could argue that since women are (frequently) intimidated by classically beautiful women, they would also prefer more boyish women. these girls offer very llittle competition in the dating world. much better friends since they can't steal ur boyfriend as easily.
great example. my supervisor, who is gay, asked, "why do people think scarlett johansson is soo beautiful?" I reply, " She is one of the only actresses with a nice body." He was sort of stumped. no straight man would be stumped. the actresses considerd the most beautiful by straight guys are ususally jessica alba, eva longoria, scarlett, etc. the muses of the fashion world include keira knightley, natalie portman and the like. i don't think its an issue of dress size, just body shape.

there are thin women with curves, but in the modeling world, i could count them on one hand.

carmen kass-- i think you are onto something, except for a couple incorrect statements.

my mother worked at an organization that handled marilyn monroe memorabilia. she was a vintage sz 12, and modern sz 6 (27/28 in jeans). monica belucci' breasts sag slightly because she is 40 and is a d-cup. considering that, she looks great.

also this word curvy is constantly usaed to describe bigger. they are curvy sz0 women and boyish sz16.

Thank you carmen_kass, very interesting ideas you brought up. I agree with some of your statements, even if we do not realise it many things happen exactly the way u described. I don't agree that we, girls, like models who are "safe" for us though. I admit models like Doutzen and Valentina are beautiful. But if I could pick who I'd like to look like, I am not sure I'd pick those 2. I certainly wouldn't like to look like Freja or Kinga and models with such look tho. But Daria and Eugenia are very beautiful for me. The latter is simply one of the most beautiful women ever in my opinion. And if u talk about "un-offensively beautiful" girls, I am not sure I would like to stand next to those 2 cause they are amazingly beautiful. Well, maybe it's some unconscious choice of conventionally less beautiful contender, I don't know, it seems I am honest with myself

^Oh yeah definately I love Eugenia and Daria, anyone who thinks they're not beautiful just has to stand next to them and we'd quickly realise our inadequecies, what I meant by "un-offensively" beautiful is that Daria and Eugenia now, have very nice figures (i.e. not runway figures) also they have cheekbones and jawlines that aren't razor sharp like Lara Stone so they have feminine, structured faces rather than manly robust cheekbones, but then they have their quirks like their noses, which don't suit every girl, but then Eugenia wouldn't be Eugenia without that fantastic nasoglobular region, which Doutzen and Valentina don't have, nor do they have very chiselled faces which makes them instantly less high fashion. Eugenia is more Fendi and Valentino beautiful, whereas Doutzen is L'oreal beautiful which means her pretty face can move lipsticks off shelves.

I know what u mean carmen_kass, majority of people would find Doutzen and Valentina more beautiful and appealing, they are conventional beauties. You say we prefer less (conventionally again) beautiful girls because somewhere inside we are afraid of competetion for men. I disagree, thats it.

Fair enough, I mean honestly I couldn't compete with any of the girls, and I'm not half as pretty as any of them so in a way what I mentioned is futile in the greater sense lol, I just wanted to try and make us aware of some of the prejudices as we hold as a fashion-centric community.

On the weight topic it's obvious on tfs what we strive to be, and it's not our fault. We like models, and we have our favourite but usually our favourite is tiny, some of the thread titles here include "How to eliminate sugar from your diet", "Which food have low or no calories", "The leg and bum thread and how to make them smaller", i.e. more model-like. Having said that there is a "plus size thread" and a "curve apprieciation thread", but they're fewer and far between compared to the "make me more like the models" thread. Being average really isn't an option anymore if you like fashion. Which is sad for a lot of girls my age (15).

sweet rus, I wouldn't cal doutzen or valentina conventional. they are very rare. i rarely see women even remotely as feminine, vibrantly healthy, symmmetrical/proportional as they are. if anything, they are the most unique kind of beauty.

eugenia is a great girl too, but havinga big nose hardly makes her unique. there are big nosed women ALL OVER. that is why rhinoplasty is the most popular plastic surgery procedure.

Yes, and you certainly did a good job analysing those things. These prejudices surely exist. What I say is that generalization is not right in this case (as anywhere else). Thank you again for formulating your thoughts in such a good way.
