there is some truth to janice's argument. models were always thin--- and i think its due to the aesthetic tastes of the designers. personally, i could care less---as long as they don't kill themselves. the girl from brazil was extremew. 90lbs? she was crazy and waay thinner than the other girls.
anyone notice how little snejana is gone? she cracks me up, simply cuz i could imagine her diva posing in the mirror, as she sucks in her cheeks, saying, "you're FABULOUS darling!" you know she loves her bony butt.

as much as i want to smack janice right now, at least she has the balls to say this. in truth, this is probably what a lot of people in the fashion industry are saying, but are scared to say.

exactly. i thnk there are agencies that milk it--like supreme. they obviously could care less about the health of their girls. i also thnink the agencies are considered the caregivers of the models historically, so maybe they should have to get their girls approved via health agencies vs. during the castings.

kushie--i think its a eu 34 and 5.9
personally, i thin they lie about the girls' waists so their measurements reflect an hourglass physique, but its 110 and 5.9

Yes she has a beautiful face no doubt but it seems as if her agency is not only supporting her current state of frailty, but promoting it.

supreme has shown poor judgement in the past, as seen in the model above, suvi,a dn stickland. too many of their models are extra pale, scrawny, and appears prepubescent

supply and demand people... Janice is merely speaking out about the demand of supermodels... being stick thin.

BUT I totally find what she said, was/is apprehensible!

Perhaps we can link it back to whether the fashion society made her the way she is or her parents did but that's no excuse.

If sample sizes were size 4-6 instead of 0-2 or 2-4... we'd have a different situation here.

Yes, the models suffer pressure to lose weight, but as models, they are publicised to an extraordinary magnitude, NY fashion week, London, Paris, Milan, Madrid, Rio, LA, Melbourne, Sydney.... everywhere.. if models were with a tiny bit more body on them and less bone, the images shown to fashion followers would impact people differently.

We wouldn't have women aiming to slim down to a zero (or Australian size 6) but rather sliming down to a size two or four, or perhaps taller women aiming for a size six.

Considering the women's average size at the moment in Australia is a size 16... (i imagine that's a size 10 US right?) it's not like the "elite" slender status would be eradicated from the runway...

Which is what the big worry is... will this emphasis on "healthier" slender models, backfire and make models seem more common and less exclusive and elite.. I say no, because the current overweight epidemic is just as bad as the eating disorder epidemic.

What health professionals are worried about is the ED's increasing to an extent that is causes harm to young girls under 18, when they are in their crucial psychologically developing stages, of life.

Also, we have to consider middle aged women have also been increasing the number of eating disorders in their age curve, thus, again reflecting that whatever aspirational characters they witness daily, are affecting them.

The solution is, promoting healthier slender sizes, it won't demote elite status, it won't reduce the exclusivity of models, it'll simply help create awareness that says:

"We know, we're looked up to by all men and women, we know we are aspirational figures for the consumer and we don't want to promote any sort of image that inclines people to take drastic measures to reach it. We want to show people a healthy slender image, of which, models must have for this profession; And this profession only!"
