Just to comment on the photos of Tanya from the page before - I have a BMI of 22.3 (right smack in the middle of 'normal weight') and if I pose like that, my ribs show too. I think Tanya's weight is fine.

^ I definitely agree. I'm 5'10 and on the lower end of the bmi scale for my height but I eat a lot (I suppose it's just genetics). My ribs would show that way too if i contorted myself into that position

^ Her weight isn't the point, it's just that the pictures seem to be glorifying her bones (which is a popular theme these days I've noticed). Her weight is fine, it's the weirdos who think it's sexy to have a naked 16 year old pose to show off her ribs.

But that wasn't the point of the photographs, I don't think the photographer was supposedly trying to sexualize her skinniness!

i think he was trying to create interesting shapes with their bodies while having a very natural/organic feel

^Exactly! To me, he didn't appear to be flaunting their size. I thought he was merely experimenting with the extreme flexibility of the human body.

Whatever, to me a topless 16 year old girl contorting to show her "extreme flexibility" and ribcage is still gross. I've seen the pictures he took of Agyness which were nice, but I found the one's of Tanya disturbing and exploitative. Guess I'm in the minority though

lots of photographers ask models to create awkward shapes...the editorial actually reminds me of one by steven meisel (with sasha and snejana)

Another by Sorrenti

[hfgl]

It's just about creating interesting compositon, I don't believe they are glorifiying thin bodies.

This is a similar contorted poses (cindy crawford)

[hfgl]

The result of these photos may be that the models appear thinner, but we can't infer that is the aim of the photographer.

but see, i think those pictures are different becaue the models are clothed (in the meisel ed). they are contorting the body, but its not focusing on their ribcages and bony-ness

but i guess thats just me

and as for the sorrentti ed, you dont need weird contorting poses to make snejana look boney

LIQUID-DIETING RUNWAY WAIFS RUN FROM FOOD

By RAAKHEE MIRCHANDANI

February 7, 2007 -- You can lead a model to the deli tray, but you can't make her eat.
Despite new guidelines to fatten up the waifs, a survey of the backstage spreads at Fashion Week found plenty of food, but few takers.
At the Lycra denim lounge Tuesday, there was a table full of minicupcakes that went almost untouched.
And some of what is consumed isn't staying down. "We can smell it. They're doing a lot of vomiting," janitor Dennis White, 28, told Reuters. He was cleaning up the toilets as models prepared for an early-morning show.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, which runs Fashion Week, issued a long list of suggestions in response to the death last year of two anorexic Latin American models.
But the guidelines - which encourage designers to put out food and ban smoking and alcohol - are nonbinding.
No one has nixed the drinks. Model boys were dispensing Peroni backstage at Erin Fetherston, Cabbeen and other shows. Designers John Varvatos and Alexandre Terexov were spotted nursing their backstage jitters with beer. Champagne and the smell of cigarettes are everywhere.
But at the end of the day, the food spreads look as if packs of squirrels came in and nibbled at the edges. Two pizzas backstage at the Nicole Romano show were cut into half-slices, and most of the crusts were still in the boxes.
"At our first show, we had catering backstage, but the models didn't eat," said a publicist. "So at our last one, we're not even going to be bothering with catering - we're just having champagne, water and energy drinks."

^ It's interesting that the article doesn't say anything about fruit. In backstage photos from nearly every show I've ever seen, models are eating fruit.

Agreed. A lot of us "regular" folks wouldn't eat mini cupcakes and pizza. Maybe they need better catering.
