I kind of agree with Sweet Rus, I dont think Stam was fat previously but she looks better now, not just her weight but overall.

If we are so used to seeing emanciated/very skinny models, then how come we don't really think of actresses, who are often much shorter than models as "wide" (can't call them fat, since most wear the same dress size)? We will still call people like Reese or Eva "very, very tiny" even though they appear "wider" than the very tall, very thin models.

I remember reading on the Lara Stone thread that someone (a tFSer that shared this story) saw her in a grocery store and outside of it some elderly French man yelled her what would be translated in English to be "It is necessary to eat!" So, even models who appear to be on the "bigger" end for models are very, very skinny.

yes maybe so but they are not like what natalia was. and thats not what they are getting pushed to be like anymore. ive seen models and they are much healthy looking then before. they look skinnier then the average person but hey these days the average person is chubby. the models who do really well arent anorexic/sick looking.... ive done some research and spoken to some people and models are sized between 34-38 some are 38 not many but some of the top ones are. but you dont hear about it because on comp cards its basically just a rule to put 34 24 34 size 34

definately. i think that the saying "the camera adds ten pounds" is very true. also, i definately think perceptions get warped by looking at models. first of all, you are only really judging these girls against other models and celebs. if we really looked at these models against people we knew in real life that we thought of as skinny, they would probably be waaaaaaay skinnier than them. i have definately looked at pictuers of really skinny models next to even skinnier models and thought they looked ok, but then saw another pic from the runway or something and was like "holy crap". its weird

I never claimed that everyone was like that; I was merely implying that the majority are, which you cannot deny.

they're shorter, proportions are different.
also, candid pictures are much more forgiving than runway pics. in runway pictures, you get the widest possible angle. with celebs, they pose and distort their bodies so that you get a more flattering angle in many cases. but to be honest, when other people talk about so-and-so being too skinny, i usually don't see it (with exceptions, like kate bosworth and nicole richie or course)

It's a temporary effect. Smoking causes your metabolism to rise - which explains why so many smokers get heart disease. It is an extremely unhealthy way to burn extra calories. You can get the same effect by eating healthy snacks every two to three hours, instead of eating three meals a day. Smoking also leads to many forms of cancer. Plus, smoking causes physical ugliness (yellow teeth and nails, bad smell, ect) which cannot be good for a person who is a model!

It's a short-term solution that will have long-term consequences. It's not worth it.

Of course proportions are different. A 5'2", size zero woman would look "wider" than someone ten inches taller because of the way she's proportioned. The former person would have shorter torso, shorter legs, etc...That's what I'm asking.
